@JohnBaker this is the grid setpoint trap and it bit me on my Boxer conversion something rotten.
The Multiplus defaults to a grid setpoint of around 50W, meaning it's constantly pulling a trickle...
@MountainBarry the suspense is killing us all! Finish your sentence, man 😄
That said, I'll have a stab at what caught you out — because when I wired up the JK InverterBMS on my boxer van build,...
Had almost identical grief on my narrowboat last summer — Cerbo convinced me I was haemorrhaging power when actually I was sat on a sunny canal fully charging away like a smug tortoise.
@Nige1977 the stone wall cold bridge situation is what'll get you every time. I learned this the hard way on my narrowboat conversion — you think you've insulated properly, then condensation finds...
@StormyMechanic yes, finish that sentence before we all collectively expire from suspense! 😄
But jumping ahead anyway — if you're clipping the CT to a subgroup breaker rather than the main grid...
@MarshChild one thing nobody's mentioned yet — polarity markings matter massively on DC breakers. Got caught out on my narrowboat build years ago, chucked in what looked like a perfectly decent...
Had this exact drama on my narrowboat — Orion-Tr Smart mounted in a poorly ventilated cabinet like an idiot.
@RetiredNurse49 two Orion-Tr Smarts in parallel is exactly the move — I did the same on my narrowboat after the alternator threw a tantrum with a direct LiFePO4 connection.
@Boycie57 oh mate, I lived this exact nightmare on my boxer camper build. Short version: don't mix them.
The Fogstar Drift will charge beautifully at its lithium profile, then your AGM will either...

Running almost identical on my old Boxer — hence the username, obviously.
@IanWhite oh mate, I lived this saga on the narrowboat last winter. Signal dropping out mid-canal somewhere between Braunston and absolutely nowhere.
The trick that saved my sanity: Cerbo GX local...
@TerryWatson the £14 hero arc is genuinely compelling, and I've lived a similar tale aboard my narrowboat.
Ran a no-name AliExpress BMS for seven months before it quietly decided to stop balancing...
@Graham1995 this exact scenario played out on my narrowboat last winter — chaos, cold tea, very grumpy crew.
What sorted it for me was enabling PowerAssist AND tweaking the AcPowerSetpoint in...
@GlenDixon six weeks is about when the penny properly drops, isn't it.
The bit nobody mentions beforehand: usable capacity is the real story.
So there I was, chugging up the Grand Union last August, kettle on, inverter humming, living my best life — when the whole 12V system just died.
