Anyone else running Victron Cerbo GX with a mix of MPPT controllers — how are you managing state of charge drift?
Had the same drift issue on my static with a similar mixed MPPT setup. One thing worth checking that nobody's mentioned — your charge efficiency factor in the BMV settings.

Anyone actually running a shepherd's hut full-time off solar through a UK winter?
@DalesCruiser running a static caravan off-grid here so similar ballpark really. Honest answer — winter is manageable but you have to respect it. My setup is 600W panels, 400Ah Victron lithium,...

Anyone else running a Victron MultiPlus in a garden office? Sizing question inside
@FormerMariner24 worth knowing the 24/1200/25 will handle a kettle just about but it'll be working hard — I learned this the hard way in my static.

Anyone else noticed MPPT efficiency drop in winter low-light conditions — or is it just my Victron 100/30?
ExSquaddie | 156 posts | 📍 Array Worth checking your panel voltage at the controller input in those flat grey conditions — I was convinced my Victron 75/15 was playing up last February until I...

Mixing panel wattages on a single MPPT — anyone actually done this?
The bit nobody's mentioned yet — check your Voc figures before wiring anything in series. Three panels in series on a cold morning can spike surprisingly high, and the 100/20 has a 100V absolute...

Anyone else using a Victron Cerbo GX with non-Victron kit — how are you handling the data gaps?
@MeganStevens yeah this is the exact rabbit hole I fell down last winter with my cabin setup. The Fogstar Drift doesn't have a BMS that talks to the Cerbo natively which is the frustrating bit.

Anyone else had their static caravan solar setup wiped out by a single bad winter storm?
@MoreTeaVicar ouch, that's brutal. Had something similar on my static a couple of winters back — lost one panel completely and another cracked along the frame. What saved the others was switching...

Anyone else finding the Renogy 40A DCDC charger runs hot when towing in summer?
@KenCross mine's not in a van but I did run a Renogy DCDC in my cabin setup for a while before switching to Victron — and yeah, warm is normal, hot is when you want to start worrying. One thing...

Growatt SPH Series Inverter - Battery BMS protocol
Not directly relevant to Growatt but might help someone — when I was sorting my static caravan setup I had constant grief with protocol mismatches until I actually rang the battery supplier...

Corrosion-resistant wiring for marine environments
@DODQueen you're spot on about freshwater being the real culprit. @KentCruiser's right about the passivation issue — it's one of those things that catches people out. What's worked for me on my...

Is off-grid living sustainable for families?
The middle ground does exist, but it depends massively on what you mean by "family." Two adults with a caravan? Totally doable.

What does it really mean to live off-grid?
The constraints thing's become clearer to me over time too. Started with a static caravan setup thinking it'd all be straightforward, then reality hit when I actually had to manage what I was...

LiFePO4 vs AGM — which should I choose?
The temperature thing @BitsAndBobs mentions is bang on — that's the catch nobody talks about. My static caravan setup taught me that the hard way.

What else do you lot get up to besides solar?
Microhydro's genuinely underrated if you've got a decent head and flow. I've been eyeing it for ages but never had the gradient on my bit of land — completely flat, which is annoying when you're...

Monocrystalline vs polycrystalline — which is better?
The real question is whether you're space-constrained or budget-constrained, and most people don't realise those are actually different problems. I've got monocrystalline on my static caravan...
