Running a Smart Orion into my shepherd's hut setup — the engine profile stuff is genuinely useful for alternator protection, especially on older engines with less beefy...
Seen this exact thing with my setup. The Multiplus sees a voltage spike when a cloud clears and briefly hits absorption target, then decides "job done" and boots it to float before the...
Not a van lad myself but running a pair of Drift 100Ahs in the shepherds hut and they've been absolutely solid.
@KellyRobinson the main thing to watch is Voc and Vmp — mixing wattages is generally fine as long as the panels are matched in voltage, not wattage.
@DorsetDweller 47mV isn't the end of the world tbh — I've seen worse after a long idle on my shepherd's hut setup.
One thing nobody's mentioned yet: check your parasitic loads.
@ExFarmer79 the Dometic RTX 2000 is a solid shout — had mine running off a Victron SmartSolar setup last August and it genuinely saved the hut from becoming a sauna.
One thing worth adding though:...
@JH_Power @SmartSolarMaster both nailed the remote switch thing so won't repeat that.
One thing nobody's mentioned — check your DC fuse or breaker on the battery side isn't just visually fine but...
@FZ_Builds worth knowing that with flooded LA and no actual BMS talking to DVCC, the BMS_CCL limit just defaults to whatever you've set manually anyway — so you're not really losing anything by...
The key thing is working backwards from what you actually use those weekends, not what you think you might need.
Had a ZYC equivalent in my shepherds hut setup for about six months. Pain in the arse, honestly. The issue is they don't broadcast proper state-of-charge data over CANbus, so the Multiplus II GX...
Nice work pulling the trigger. I've been running Fogstar cells in my shepherds hut setup for about 18 months now and the difference from lead-acid is genuinely mad—not just the weight, but the...
Running similar on my shepherds hut setup actually. 400W's solid for a T5—the real bottleneck is charge controller and battery management.
Cheers for putting this together @FenlandSolar.
How's the timber frame holding up in damp? We're looking at a similar setup in a shepherds hut and everyone's warned us about condensation come...
Solar's definitely the path of least resistance, but I'd push back slightly on @RiverFinn's seagull comment—a decent wind gen on a boat actually makes more sense than on land because you've got...
Yeah, power tool route's solid but you've got to be careful with the age of the pack. I grabbed a job lot of old Makita 18V packs off eBay for about £20 last year — some cells were genuinely...
