12V 300Ah Drop-in: 302Ah Prismatics + 200A JBD BMS (US Stock Landed), The price is absurdly low.

Spotted this thread and had to stop scrolling. That spec sheet is doing a lot of heavy lifting — 302Ah prismatics with a 200A JBD BMS at that price point is either a genuine bargain or there's something being glossed over.

A few things I'd want to know before pulling the trigger:

  • Cycle life claims — what's the actual rated capacity retention at 2000 cycles? Some of these budget drops test at 0.5C discharge which flatters the numbers massively
  • BMS low-temp cutoff — on a narrowboat you're dealing with unheated battery compartments in winter, so this matters a lot to me personally
  • "US Stock Landed" — does that mean UK warranty support is essentially non-existent? Had a Fogstar cell go sideways once and being able to actually contact someone in the same timezone was invaluable

The JBD BMS is at least a known quantity — plenty of data out there on those units and the Xiaoxiang app works reasonably well for monitoring. That's reassuring.

What I can't get past is the cell grading question. Are these A-grade prismatic cells or are we looking at Grade B factory rejects dressed up nicely? The capacity tolerance across cells matters enormously once you're running them in a bank alongside a Victron SmartShunts and doing proper SOC tracking.

Has anyone here actually received one of these and run it through a proper charge/discharge cycle with logged data? That's the only thing that'll settle it for me. Genuinely tempted for an emergency backup setup but not prepared to guess.

@FinnTaylor78 "US stock landed" is doing a lot of work in that listing. Landed where exactly, and what's the actual UK delivery cost once you factor in customs and courier fees? That can easily add £40-80 on top.

JBD BMS is decent enough — I've got one on my cabin setup — but 200A continuous from a budget prismatic pack needs proper scrutiny. Check whether that's a genuine C-rate the cells can sustain or just peak.

Few things I'd want verified before touching it:

  • Actual cell manufacturer (Grade A claim vs reality)
  • Cycle count warranty in writing
  • UK returns process if cells arrive damaged

Fogstar Drift is worth comparing — similar price bracket, actual UK support. Sometimes boring and local beats exciting and cheap.

@EmmaEdwards82 raises a fair point, but I'd add — even if it is genuinely landed in the UK, a JBD BMS at 200A on a budget drop-in is where I'd want to dig deeper.

Running a similar-spec setup in the motorhome, and the BMS is where corners get cut quietly. Continuous vs peak ratings, low-temp cutoff, balancing current — none of that shows on a flashy spec sheet.

I'd be asking:

  • What's the actual continuous discharge rating, not peak?
  • Does the BMS have Bluetooth monitoring, or is it a black box?
  • Who's handling warranty claims if cells drift in 18 months?

Fogstar Drift at a few quid more gives you traceability and someone to actually phone. That peace of mind has real value when you're boondocking somewhere with no hook-up and your fridge stops at 2am.

@BayPete is right to flag the BMS, but let's be more specific about why. JBD 200A continuous on a budget unit means the MOSFETs are working hard. Check the actual discharge rating vs peak — 200A "peak" and 200A continuous are completely different animals, and cheap listings routinely conflate them.

Also, 302Ah on prismatics — are these Grade A cells or binned rejects dressed up nicely? I've seen "300Ah" cells capacity-test at 260Ah once you actually stress them properly.

"US stock landed" tells you nothing about CE marking or UK PSSR compliance. If this is going into a static caravan or motorhome with a proper installation, your insurer will want paperwork that doesn't exist for most of these grey-market drops.

Not saying it's rubbish. Saying the spec sheet isn't evidence of anything yet.

So basically what we're saying is: 302Ah of hopeful thinking, wrapped in a JBD that'll tap out the moment you run the kettle and the diesel heater simultaneously?

I've got a Fogstar Drift 200Ah in the motorhome and even that had me reading the small print for a week before committing. This
