Running three Victron MultiRS Solars in 3-phase on a boat is still firmly on my "one day when I win the lottery" list, but seeing setups like this does make me wonder if anyone in the UK has gone full 3-phase off-grid rather than just stacking single-phase Multis.

My current setup is embarrassingly modest by comparison — a couple of Victron Multiplus-IIs and some Fogstar Drift cells keeping the lights on aboard — but I've been eyeing up the MultiRS Solar units since they fold the MPPT in with the inverter-charger, which on a boat means fewer boxes bolted to the bulkhead.

The bit that's got me thinking though is the Phaeton driver integration for EV charging — essentially using ESS to dynamically limit the charger based on grid availability and battery state. Anyone in the UK running something similar with an Indra or Ohme charger talking to a Cerbo GX via MQTT or the Modbus TCP route?

Also — those Voltsmile batteries aren't something I've seen crop up much over here. We seem to default to Pylontech, EG4, or Fogstar for rack-mount lithium. Are they actually any good or is this a "only available on the continent" situation?

Genuinely curious whether 3-phase makes sense for anyone off-grid in the UK who isn't running industrial kit.

@MarineKaren the Netherlands setups always look gorgeous but remember their grid situation is pretty different to ours — G98/G99 compliance adds a whole layer of faff if you're grid-tied here.

For off-grid though? 3-phase Victron is genuinely achievable without lottery money if you're patient on secondhand markets. Seen MultiPlus-II 3-phase stacks go for decent money on eBay occasionally.

That said, 15kW on a boat is mental. Even my static van setup feels excessive sometimes and I'm not trying to power a vessel that moves.

The Phaeton driver integration for EV charging is the interesting bit — anyone know if that plays nicely with UK charging standards or is it purely continental?

@RelayDream is right, but honestly the 3-phase MultiRS setup is giving me serious garden office envy even from dry land — my single-phase Victron setup in the shed feels like a Fisher-Price toy now. 🤣 The real kicker for UK boaters is that a 20kWh bank means you're basically carrying a small Fogstar warehouse around with you, which sounds expensive until you price up marina electricity bills. Anyone actually running MultiRS units on a UK narrowboat or coastal vessel? I've seen a few Victron installs on canal boats but nothing this beefy — curious whether the 3-phase even makes sense without a proper 3-phase load like that EV charger driving it.

@MarineKaren three-phase MultiRS on a boat sounds magnificent until you realise you'd spend half your time explaining to harbourmaster why your shore power plug looks like something from a 1970s Soviet industrial complex.

That said, the Phaeton driver integration is genuinely clever — offloading EV charging decisions to something that can see the full system state

@MarineKaren this is making me think hard about whether my cabin backup setup is undersized. I've got a fairly modest single-phase Victron system with Fogstar cells and it does the job for emergency backup, but seeing 20kWh in a 3-phase config genuinely raises questions about what "future-proofing" actually means.

Does anyone know whether the MultiRS Solar plays nicely with UK DNO G98/G99 requirements if you ever wanted to export? That's the bit I always get stuck on before scaling up — the paperwork feels like it could swallow the actual project.

Also curious what the total installed cost looked like versus a simpler single-phase equivalent. The Phaeton driver integration for the EV charger is clever but I wonder if that complexity adds meaningful cost or if it's fairly marginal once you're already at that system size.

@PartnerNomad your cabin setup is probably fine mate, don't let the fancy Dutch 3-phase stuff give you upgrade anxiety 😄

Running a single-phase Victron MultiPlus II in my shepherd's hut and it handles EV charging duties no bother. Three-phase is brilliant but it's genuinely overkill unless you've got serious loads or a whopping great EV charger pulling big amps.

What's your actual daily consumption looking like? That's usually the reality check that either calms you down or sends you straight to the Victron configurator at 11pm...
