Been wrestling with something similar on my shepherd's hut setup and wondered if anyone else has hit this wall.
Running a Victron Multiplus-II with a Cerbo GX and Touch 70 display, and whilst I can see all the DC-side data beautifully through the SmartShunt, the AC input metering feels almost deliberately vague. When my grid-tie feed kicks in through the changeover relay, the Touch 70 just shows a generic "AC In" without any real power figures — watts, current, nothing useful.
The German-language thread I stumbled across had someone with a Phoenix inverter and an IP43 charger asking essentially the same thing: how do you actually get meaningful AC input measurements displayed?
From what I've pieced together, the Cerbo can pull AC metering data if you add something like a Victron Energy Meter (ET112 or ET340) on the AC input side. But that feels like an expensive addition when the Multiplus surely knows what's coming in?
A few things I'm still unsure about:
- Does the Multiplus-II report AC input power natively to the Cerbo, or does it need an external meter?
- Would a Carlo Gavazzi meter (the ones Victron resell) give better resolution than relying on the inverter's internal sensing?
- Anyone using VRM Portal to compensate for what the Touch 70 doesn't show locally?
Mainly asking because I want to properly track how much grid energy I'm pulling versus what the Fogstar battery bank is contributing — especially useful when I'm fast-charging an EV from the hut's supply.
Anyone sorted this cleanly?
