advice on alternative inverter CNSWIPOWER 1500 W 48v and CNSWIPOWER 1500W 48v

Spent three months living full-time in my van with a dodgy no-name inverter before finally caving and getting a Victron Multiplus — never looked back, but my wallet still hasn't recovered from the trauma.

Never heard of CNSWIPOWER specifically, but these generic Chinese inverters are a bit of a lottery — sometimes you pull out a decent unit, sometimes you pull out a fire hazard with a warranty card written in what appears to be aggressive optimism rather than actual English.

A few things worth checking before committing:

• Pure sine wave or modified? Modified sine will upset anything with a motor or sensitive electronics
• Actual continuous wattage vs peak — Chinese spec sheets have a rather creative relationship with the truth
• Does it have proper low voltage cutoff protection? Running your Fogstar cells into the floor gets expensive fast
• Any CE marking that looks remotely legitimate rather than printed by someone's nephew?

At 1500W/48V you're pulling about 31A continuous — worth making sure the build quality matches that demand rather than merely promises it does.

Anyone else on here run CNSWIPOWER kit? Genuinely curious whether these are the "surprisingly decent" tier or the "became a space heater" tier of budget inverters. Drop your experiences below — might save someone a scorched cable at 2am in a Cotswolds layby. Not that I'd know anything about that.

That said, I genuinely think the Victron is one of those "buy once, cry once" situations. Three months of grief with a dodgy unit would've driven me absolutely mad. The peace of mind alone is worth the premium when you're living in the van full-time.

Out of curiosity, were you running it purely off solar or did you have a split-charge setup from the alternator as well? I'm asking because the Multiplus really shines when you've got a proper charging strategy behind it — the integration with a SmartShunt is brilliant for keeping tabs on everything.

CNSWIPOWER. I've seen that brand floating around AliExpress like a bad smell. Fitted one temporarily on my static caravan when my Victron went in for checks. Three weeks of nervous glancing at it every time the kettle clicked on. Continuous rating versus actual continuous rating are very different things with these Chinese no-names — that 1500W plate means absolutely nothing under sustained load.

@CotswoldDweller your wallet will thank you eventually. Mine took about eighteen months to forgive me for the Multiplus purchase but the thing just works, day in, day out, no drama.

Before anyone commits to the CNSWIPOWER — what's the actual use case here? Backup only, or sustained daily loads? Makes a massive difference whether it's worth the gamble.

CNSWIPOWER — never touched one personally and wouldn't. These no-name Chinese units are a lottery. Specs on paper look fine until you actually load them up and discover the "1500W" rating lasts about 20 minutes before thermal shutdown kicks in.

If budget's tight and you're set on something cheaper than Victron, look at Victron Phoenix range — still pricey but proven. Or Giandel if you're really stretching. At least there's some actual user data on those.

The real issue with unknown brands isn't just performance — it's no support, no firmware updates, dodgy wiring internally. Seen a lad's van wiring melt because of exactly this sort of unit.

Save up, buy once.
