Been down this rabbit hole myself over the past few weeks, so thought I'd share what I've found.

Short answer: not many places shipping to the UK right now, and the ones that will are quoting eye-watering freight costs that somewhat undermine the "budget-friendly" appeal of going the EG4 route in the first place.

My garden office build has been on hold partly because of this. I'd spec'd the 12000XP as the centrepiece after watching every YouTube video in existence on it, but the reality of actually getting one here is a different story. Most US retailers like Signature Solar won't ship internationally, and the grey-import middlemen I've spoken to are quoting 6-8 week lead times minimum.

Worth asking — has anyone actually gone through a freight forwarder successfully? I've been looking at whether the Victron Quattro route makes more sense at this point, not because it's cheaper (it absolutely isn't), but because stock is actually available and the UK support network is proper.

Also curious whether anyone's considered the Deye or Solis alternatives instead — similar hybrid-style spec sheets and you can actually buy them from UK distributors today rather than chasing shadows across the Atlantic.

What's everyone else's current thinking? Is the 12000XP actually worth waiting for, or are we collectively getting a bit dazzled by the spec sheet?

@WattNick same rabbit hole, same bruises.

Spent a good chunk of last spring trying to source an EG4 for the motorhome build. Eventually gave up and went Victron Multiplus-II — yes, dearer upfront, but I could actually get it from a UK supplier without playing the customs lottery.

The brutal truth with a lot of these American-spec inverters is that even when you find someone willing to ship, you're looking at import duty, potential VAT at the border, and zero warranty support if something goes sideways.

Might be worth posting your actual wattage requirements? There's a decent chance something from Fogstar, Pylontech ecosystem, or even a Victron/Studer setup could tick the same boxes without the transatlantic headache. What's the end use — residential, motorhome, static cabin?

Been down a similar path when speccing out my tiny house battery system, and the import situation for EG4 kit into the UK is genuinely painful.

The fundamental problem, as I understand it, is that EG4 gear isn't MCS-certified or UKCA-marked for grid-tied use — which narrows your legitimate import routes considerably. For pure off-grid applications it's a different conversation legally, but couriers and freight forwarders often don't know that distinction and simply refuse the consignment anyway.

Worth considering whether the Victron Quattro range actually covers what you need. Pricier, yes — but you're buying from established UK distributors like Bimble Solar or Merlin Solar, with proper warranty support on home soil.

If you're absolutely committed to the EG4, @WattNick, some members over on the Endless Sphere forums have documented successful freight-forwarder routes from the US. The customs paperwork burden is significant though.

Good thread, glad someone's put this together. I went through much the same rigmarole last autumn when I was expanding my barn setup.

From what I found, Signature Solar in the States will ship internationally but the freight costs and import duties absolutely hammer the final price - we're talking potentially adding 30-40% on top before it's sitting in your driveway.

Honestly, by the time I'd done the full landed cost calculation, I started looking seriously at alternatives. The Solis, Victron, and Growatt ranges available domestically started looking considerably more attractive once you factor in warranty support too - getting warranty service sorted from a US supplier when something goes wrong is a proper headache.

@WattNick what's drawing you specifically to the EG4 over something more readily available here? Might be worth exploring whether another unit ticks your boxes without the import nightmare.

Worth flagging that even when you do find a shipper willing to send EG4 kit to the UK, you're potentially looking at customs delays on top of the shipping costs. Had a parcel sit in a warehouse for three weeks last year — nothing to do with EG4 specifically, just US-origin electrical goods generally.

For emergency backup purposes (which is my use case), that kind of uncertainty is a real problem when you need kit now.

Honestly at this point I'd be looking hard at Victron Multiplus territory. Not cheap, but you can actually get one. Fogstar or Pylontech on the battery side if budget's tight. Less exciting than the EG4 spec sheet, but it's gear you can physically touch this month rather than theoretically touch in Q3.

Yeah @MoorCamper raises the real killer point — customs is where it gets painful. Had a Renogy unit held for three weeks once, nightmare.

Honestly at this power level I'd be looking hard at Victron Quattro territory instead. Yes, pricier upfront, but:

  • Actually stocked in the UK (Bimble, Merlin, etc.)
  • No import faff
  • Warranty you can actually enforce
  • Victron ecosystem plays nicely with everything else

My garden office runs a Victron MultiPlus II and the support network alone is worth the premium. Parts available, local installers know it, firmware updates actually land.

EG4 stuff is great value on paper but the moment something goes wrong from the UK, you're basically on your own. That risk has a cost that doesn't show up in the headline price.
