Been living aboard full time for about three years now and people always assume you're basically powerless from October through March. Not been my experience at all tbh.
Running a 400W array (two Renogy 200W panels flat on the roof) feeding into a Victron MPPT 100/30 and a 200Ah Fogstar Drift lithium. Even on a grey December day I'm pulling 20-40W most of the time — not glamorous but enough to cover LED lighting, phone charging, a bit of laptop use. Engine hours do the heavy lifting on the really grim weeks obviously.
The flat mounting angle is what throws people — you'd think it kills efficiency but it actually catches more diffuse light than you'd expect in winter. Summer it's brutal hot but winter it holds up better than my mate's van build with tilted panels somehow.
Anyone else liveaboard and tracking their winter yields? Curious what setups people are running and whether anyone's actually got tilt frames working on a narrowboat without them becoming a wind/bridge hazard.
