Yeah, noticing this on the narrowboat this summer for sure. My Victron Multiplus seems to be spinning up the fan at much lighter loads than it did last year — reckon the ambient temp in the engine bay is just roasting it before it even gets a chance to do any real work.
Moved it slightly further from the engine bulkhead last month which helped a tiny bit, but it's still cutting in earlier than I'd like. Not throwing any fault codes or anything, just... noisier than usual when I'm trying to have a quiet evening moored up 😅
Few things I've been considering:
- Small 12v fan blowing fresh air across the inverter casing
- Relocating it somewhere with better airflow altogether (easier said than done on a narrowboat)
- Checking whether the fan threshold can be adjusted in VictronConnect — anyone actually done this?
Honestly I think it's just the reality of a hot summer in a metal box floating on water. The boat absorbs heat all day and doesn't really let it go until well into the night.
Curious whether people with inverters in more exposed locations (like a proper battery box outside the cabin) are seeing the same thing, or whether it's purely a confined-space problem. Also wondering if anyone running Fogstar Drift cells has noticed their BMS getting warmer than usual — mine seems toastier than I remember from last summer too.
