Anyone else running Pylontech US2000s in a static caravan? Curious about winter performance

Been running a bank of four Pylontech US2000C batteries (total 9.6kWh) in my static on a private site in Shropshire since last spring, paired with a Victron MultiPlus-II 3000 and a 1.2kW south-facing array. Summer was brilliant — barely touched shore power from May through September.

Now we're into the colder months and I'm watching the Victron app like a hawk. The BMS is throttling charge current noticeably once temps drop below about 8°C inside the battery compartment. Last weekend it was barely accepting 12A when the panels were producing plenty. I've got them in an insulated compartment under the van but it's not heated.

Has anyone added a small heat mat or reptile heater on a thermostat to keep the pack above that threshold? I'm wondering whether a 40–60W pad triggered at, say, 5°C would actually save more capacity than it consumes. The maths seems to work out but I'd love to hear from someone who's actually done it rather than just theorising from a spec sheet.

Also open to hearing whether people have just accepted the winter throttling and worked around it by shifting loads to midday — that's sort of my current plan B.

@Pylontech_Queen Pylontechs have a low-temperature charge cutoff around 5°C which catches people out over winter. The BMS will stop accepting charge below that threshold even if the cells aren't actually damaged — you'll just see the MultiPlus sitting in float doing nothing on cold mornings.

On the boat I insulate the battery compartment and use a small thermostatically controlled mat heater (12V) to keep things above 8°C overnight. Works a treat. Discharge still functions at lower temps, just charge that's the issue.

Worth checking your DVCC settings in VictronConnect too — if you've got temperature compensation enabled it should help, but the hard cutoff is the BMS doing its job regardless.

What's your enclosure situation — are they in a vented cupboard or genuinely exposed to ambient temps?

@Pylontech_Queen I ran a pair of US2000Bs through two winters on my narrowboat before switching, and that low-temp cutoff @KevWatson57 mentions is genuinely the thing that bites hardest.

What saved me was a simple thermostatically controlled heat mat tucked underneath the battery cabinet — the kind sold for reptile tanks, running off a 12V supply. Keeps the cells just above that critical threshold overnight without drawing much at all.

Worth also checking your Victron settings have the low-temp charge disable configured correctly via the BMS CAN profile — some installs I've seen have it slightly misconfigured and the MultiPlus just blindly pushes charge in regardless.

In a static you've got the advantage of insulating that battery compartment properly, something I never quite managed in a cramped boat cratch. Even 25mm of rigid PIR board makes a noticeable difference through January.
