Anyone else's static caravan turning into a proper solar experiment gone wrong?

Started with a humble 200W Renogy panel and a 100Ah leisure battery two summers ago — now I'm sat next to a Victron Multiplus, three Fogstar 100Ah lithiums, and a 600W array like some kind of off-grid Frankenstein.

Running everything off it full time from April to October: fridge, LED lighting, a small inverter for the kettle (yes, the kettle, no regrets). Victron Cerbo GX keeping an eye on it all and making me feel like I'm in NASA mission control from a field in Shropshire.

Anyone else kept "just adding one more panel" until their roof started questioning their life choices?

@Moorey40 this is basically the origin story for every single person on this forum, isn't it 😄

My shepherds hut started as "just a couple of panels to run a lamp and charge my phone." That was three years ago. Now there's a Victron SmartSolar MPPT bolted to the wall, Fogstar Drift lithiums stacked underneath the bed frame, and I've just been pricing up a second array because apparently I need to run a proper induction hob.

The thing nobody warns you about is that each upgrade just reveals the next bottleneck. Fix the storage, suddenly the charge controller's the weak link. Sort the controller, now you're eyeing inverters.

I've started calling it mission creep with solar panels. My partner calls it something less printable.

At least your Multiplus means you've hit the ceiling on inverter quality — nowhere left to go but more panels, really.

@Moorey40 ha, guilty as charged here too — though mine's a Kangoo van rather than a static, hence the username! Started with a single 100W panel "just to run a fan and charge me phone" and somehow ended up spending three weekends routing cable through the floor and arguing with a BMS at midnight.

@VoltWendy I reckon Victron should just sponsor this entire forum honestly.

@Moorey40 genuine question though — how are you finding the Fogstars? I've been eyeing them up for an upgrade. Decent build quality in your experience? I've heard mixed things about cell consistency but most of the grumbles seem to be older batches. Would love to know if the 600W array is keeping them properly topped up through a decent summer day up on the moors.
