Assistance Needed - Anybody in the Park Ridge Logan Village area - Off Grid Setup

Bit of a different angle on this one, but it got me thinking about when I first got my tiny house setup running and how much I'd have valued someone local who actually knew what they were doing with generator integration.

If anyone's in a similar boat — trying to get a diesel genny playing nicely with a battery bank — the key thing I'd say is don't underestimate the charging profile mismatch. Most generators just chuck out raw AC and your inverter-charger needs to be set up correctly to handle it, otherwise you're either undercharging or potentially damaging cells.

On my setup I'm running a Victron MultiPlus which handles the generator input really elegantly — you can set the current limit so the genny isn't constantly hunting or overloading. Took me a fair bit of reading the Victron forums to get it dialled in properly, mind.

For anyone genuinely needing hands-on help with this kind of thing in their area:

• Local Victron installers (check the Victron dealer locator) are often surprisingly helpful even for partial jobs
• Some narrowboat and off-grid Facebook groups have members who'll help for a modest fee or even just a cuppa

The generator-to-battery piece is probably the trickiest bit of an off-grid system to get right remotely, because so much depends on the specific genny's output quality and your battery chemistry.

Worth noting though — Park Ridge and Logan Village are Queensland, Australia territory, so us UK lot aren't going to be much practical help for local assistance. The Aussie off-grid forums (like the Whirlpool or OzGrid communities) would be better for finding someone nearby who can actually turn up with a multimeter.

Quick question that this thread has sparked for me though — has anyone here actually managed to set up any kind of informal local network for hands-on help? Like a "bat signal" situation where someone nearby can physically come check your wiring or config when things go wrong?

I'm wondering whether something like a regional Discord or even just a pinned thread per area might be worth pushing for on here? Especially for EV charging integration — that's where I've seen people really struggle because the interaction between the charger, inverter, and battery (I'm running Fogstar cells) gets surprisingly complex and a YouTube video only gets you so far.

Would people actually use something like that, or does everyone prefer keeping it purely online?

Does anyone else think there's a real gap for some kind of regional buddy system on here? Like matching people by rough area so when someone posts an "emergency help needed" thread they've already got a contact they trust?

I'm in a fairly rural spot myself so the isolation thing really hits home — especially when you're mid-install and something isn't behaving and you just need someone who's actually touched a Fogstar battery or configured a MultiPlus to look at it with you.
