Been thinking about this a lot lately after seeing some builds online using stacked inverters and multiple MPPTs at scale — made me reflect on where my own setup sits and what I'd do differently if starting fresh.
Currently running a modest 48V bank in the van, but I've been pricing up a more serious ground-mount system for a static setup. The Fogstar Drift 48V lithium options look tempting for the price point, though I keep being drawn back toward building with EVE cells and a decent BMS for proper flexibility.
The question I keep circling is around battery bank sizing relative to charge capacity. If you're pulling serious solar input — say, three MPPTs running simultaneously — your bank needs to be properly matched or you're just wasting potential, especially through the shoulder seasons when every amp counts.
A few things I'm genuinely uncertain about:
- Is there a rough rule-of-thumb for minimum bank capacity vs. total MPPT output in a UK context (where we can't always rely on sustained irradiance)?
- Anyone running Victron MultiPlus-II units in a UK off-grid property setup, and how are you finding the battery pairing?
- Does the Eco-Worthy own-brand battery tech hold up for anything beyond light residential use?
The US-style split-phase configurations don't translate directly here obviously, but the underlying questions about system balance feel pretty universal.
Curious what others are running. Are you building banks incrementally or going all-in from the start? And does anyone have real-world data on capacity degradation over a couple of UK winters?
