Bit of an odd one to pop up on a UK forum given that's a US/North American spec inverter (the USSNBBL14 suffix is the giveaway), but I'll bite because the optimiser compatibility question is genuinely interesting regardless of market.

The SE11400H is a single-phase HD-Wave inverter, and the OP-400 optimisers should pair with it on paper — SolarEdge's own compatibility matrix lists the OP-400 as working across their HD-Wave residential range. That said, I'd double-check via SolarEdge's online Designer tool because they're quite specific about which optimiser suits which panel wattage and string configuration.

A few things worth flagging:

  • The OP-400 has a 55V input range which suits most modern 400W+ panels, but verify your panel's Voc is within spec
  • SolarEdge optimisers handle shade mitigation brilliantly, but you're still locked into their ecosystem — no mixing Tigo or Enphase bits later
  • If you're somehow trying to run this hardware in the UK, you'll hit G98/G99 compliance issues immediately — this unit isn't MCS or DNO-approved for GB grid connection

On my narrowboat I run a Victron setup so I'm no SolarEdge expert, but I've helped a mate spec a ground-mount system with their kit and the Designer tool saved us from a costly string length mistake.

@Spud is right that the SE11400H-USSNBBL14 is firmly a North American unit (240V split-phase, 60Hz), so it'll never play nicely with UK 230V/50Hz grid regs — full stop.

That said, the OP-400 optimiser compatibility question is worth answering properly: SolarEdge optimisers are generally cross-compatible within their generation, but you'd want to cross-reference the SolarEdge compatibility table because string length, voltage ceiling, and inverter communication versions all matter.

If you're after the concept for a UK off-grid static caravan or narrowboat setup, look at the SE inverter range with EU/UK suffixes paired with P-series or S-series optimisers — Victron remains king for off-grid flexibility though, and your sanity will thank you later.

Don't marry a US inverter to a UK grid — that's not romance, that's a building regs nightmare.

Good points from @Spud and @RetiredChef on the regional mismatch. To actually answer the optimiser question though — yes, the OP-400 MV is compatible with the SE11400H family architecturally. SolarEdge's HD-Wave inverters use the same optimiser communication protocol regardless of market variant, so the pairing itself is sound in principle.

The OP-400 MV is rated for module power up to 400W with a 60V maximum input, which suits most modern panels nicely.

For anyone in the UK reading this and thinking along similar lines, the SE10000H or SE11400H with the UK/EU suffix paired with OP-400 optimisers is a well-proven combination — I've seen several installations running solidly on that setup. Just ensure your DNO G98/G99 notification is sorted before commissioning, as SolarEdge kit needs correct grid profile configuration for UK operation.

On the optimiser compatibility specifically — worth noting that SolarEdge's own compatibility matrix (available on their support portal) is the definitive reference, not third-party sources. The OP-400 MV has a fairly broad input voltage range but you need to verify your string design falls within the inverter's MPPT window. SolarEdge's Designer tool will flag mismatches before you commit to anything.

From my own experience speccing a small SolarEdge system for a static caravan setup (UK-spec SE unit, obviously), their compatibility documentation is actually reasonably thorough — more so than some competitors I've dealt with. But the software validation step is non-negotiable in my view; don't rely on component names alone implying compatibility.

If you're genuinely UK-based, get the correct regional inverter first, then revisit the optimiser question.

One thing worth adding for anyone reading this thread who's actually sourcing kit in the UK: SolarEdge's compatibility matrices are region-locked on their website, so even if you're researching the OP-400 MV for a UK-spec inverter, make sure you're pulling the datasheet from the EU portal rather than the US one — the approved inverter lists differ, and I've seen people get caught out pairing optimisers against the wrong regional compatibility table.

For UK residential installations the SE10K-RWS or similar single-phase units are what you'd actually be specifying. Your DNO G98/G99 application will also need to reference the correct regional variant, otherwise you'll be resubmitting paperwork — ask me how I know.
