Bit of a niche one this, but wondered if anyone else has run into something similar after a voltage migration.

Just finished bumping my narrowboat system from 24V to 48V — new Fogstar Drift 48V LiFePO4, kept the existing Victron MPPT and swapped in a MultiPlus-II 48/3000. All went together reasonably smoothly, but now the consumption and solar graphs on VRM are basically showing identical lines. Doesn't matter what time of day or what the load is doing — the two traces just mirror each other almost exactly.

My gut says it's a configuration issue somewhere rather than a hardware fault. Possibly the shunt isn't being read correctly, or VRM is pulling data from the wrong source after I re-paired everything post-migration. I did a full VEConfigure session but I'm not 100% sure I got the system setup wizard spot-on the second time around.

Has anyone seen this after a voltage change specifically? My suspicion is that VRM gets a bit confused about which device is "source" and which is "load" when you change the system voltage and re-register components.

A couple of things I've already checked:

  • SmartShunt is wired correctly (confirmed negative side of battery)
  • VRM portal shows all devices as online
  • DVCC is enabled

Not ruling out that I've just clicked something wrong in the setup wizard — wouldn't be the first time. Would be curious whether anyone's had to do a full VRM installation reset after a major system change, or whether there's a simpler fix hiding somewhere in the settings.

Hey @RKE_Builds, classic symptom of the monitoring system not picking up the voltage migration properly. Worth checking whether your shunt or energy meter has been reconfigured for 48V — a lot of them default back after a firmware update or power cycle, so they're essentially reading the same raw current data and presenting it doubled (or halved) across both consumption and solar channels, making them look identical.

If you're running a Victron setup, double-check the system voltage setting in VictronConnect rather than just on the MPPT itself — the Venus device or Cerbo sometimes holds its own cached config. A full "forget and re-pair" of the devices occasionally clears it.

What monitoring hardware are you using alongside the Fogstar? That'll help narrow it down sharpish.

Good shout from @CrispyRigger. One thing I'd add specifically for the Victron setup — double-check your system voltage setting in VRM under the installation details. After a voltage migration it doesn't always update automatically, and if it's still set to 24V the portal can end up displaying consumption and solar as mirrored data because the calculations are off.

Also worth jumping into the CCGX or Cerbo (whichever you're running) and doing a full settings reset on the display rather than just the connected devices. Had almost exactly this on my own system after swapping to 48V and that sorted it within minutes.

If you're using a SmartShunt, verify the aux input configuration too — sometimes it gets confused post-migration and starts feeding dodgy data upstream to VRM which muddies the graphs further.

@RKE_Builds one thing neither @CrispyRigger nor @Jonno25 have touched on — after a 24V→48V migration, the VE.Bus System entry in VRM can end up duplicating data if your CCGX or Cerbo hasn't had its device list fully cleared and re-scanned. Go into Settings → VRM Online Portal → Reset VRM Portal ID and force a fresh device registration. Sounds drastic but it doesn't wipe historical data.

Also worth confirming your BMV-712 or SmartShunt battery voltage sense is correctly reflecting 48V nominal — if it's still configured for 24V, the consumption calculations will be nonsensical and the graphs effectively mirror each other because the shunt maths is feeding garbage upstream.

Had almost identical behaviour on my own 24V→48V migration last spring. The Cerbo re-scan sorted it within minutes.

Good points from everyone above. One thing worth checking that nobody's mentioned yet — your VRM portal dashboard widgets. After my motorhome migration the graphs were pulling stale cached data for days. Go into Settings > Dashboard and just delete and re-add the consumption widget entirely. Sounds stupid simple but it worked.

Also double-check your BMV-712 or SmartShunt battery capacity settings — if it's still configured for 24V nominal, the consumption calculations will be off and the graph'll just flatline or loop the same reading. Victron's monitoring maths leans heavily on those baseline values.

Might not be your exact issue but worth ruling out before diving deeper into VE.Bus stuff.
