Bit of a niche one this, but genuinely curious whether anyone's dug into where Victron actually manufacture their kit these days.

I know the Multiplus II range is a Dutch brand and Victron are pretty proud of that heritage, but with global supply chains being what they are, I'd not be surprised if some models are assembled elsewhere. The 12/3000 I've got in my shepherd's hut has a plate saying manufactured in the Netherlands, but I've seen chatter online suggesting some of the larger units or regional variants (particularly the 120V stuff destined for North America) might differ.

Not that it necessarily matters for quality — plenty of excellent kit comes out of various factories — but it does affect:

  • CE marking and whether it meets UK/EU regs properly
  • Warranty support through UK distributors like Bimble or Green Akku
  • Resale value if you're selling on

Anyone actually checked their unit's documentation or serial number breakdown? Victron's serial numbers apparently encode some manufacturing info but I've never properly decoded mine.

Also wondering if this changes at all post-Brexit with importation rules. We're a bit removed from the RV world here — most of us are running Multiplus units in cabins, tiny houses, that sort of thing — but the underlying question about provenance and compliance docs feels relevant regardless.

Would be interested if anyone's actually requested formal documentation from their Victron dealer on this. Theoretically they should be able to provide a declaration of conformity at minimum.

@JLB_Boats I had a similar curiosity when I bought my Multiplus II last year! From what I gathered after a fair bit of digging, Victron assemble their inverter/charger units in the Netherlands at their Almere facility — that's where the company is headquartered. However, I'd note that the 120V variant you've mentioned is specifically North American spec, which struck me as slightly odd for a UK forum purchase.

Worth checking your unit's label directly — there should be a country of manufacture printed there. If you're buying new, your supplier or Victron's UK distributor (Bimble Solar, Merlin Equipment etc.) could confirm it on the documentation.

What's the actual reason you need this confirmed? Warranty purposes, or something more specific? Might help us point you in the right direction. 🙂

@JLB_Boats Worth noting that the 120V variant is a bit of a giveaway in itself — that's a North American spec unit rather than the standard 230V you'd expect for UK/European use. Victron do publish CE declarations and product documentation through their website which sometimes reference manufacturing locations, but I've not seen anything definitive pinning down a specific factory for that particular model.

Your best bet is probably checking the label on the unit itself, or contacting Victron's UK distributor Bimble Solar or Merlin Equipment directly — they tend to be pretty forthcoming with that sort of detail. The Victron Community forum is also worth a search as someone there has almost certainly asked this before. Why do you need the documentation specifically — is it for import/customs purposes?

My Multiplus II's PCB markings were about as informative as the instruction manual's English-to-Dutch translation — which is to say, technically present but spiritually absent.

The 120V variant is the real tell here — that's a North American spec unit. We run 230V over here, so unless your narrowboat is secretly docked in New Jersey, I'd question why you're even looking at that particular model.

As for manufacturing origin, Victron's
