Has anyone here actually pulled the trigger on one of these EASUN units? The price point is genuinely tempting, especially compared to what Victron charges for equivalent spec — but I'm always a bit wary when something seems that far below market rate.

I've got a Victron Multiplus on my boat and it's been rock solid, but I'm putting together a separate emergency backup system for the house and honestly can't justify another Victron outlay right now. This EASUN keeps cropping up in my research.

A few things I'd want to know before committing:

  • Warranty support — who actually handles claims if you're in the UK? Is it the seller, a UK distributor, or are you posting it back to China?
  • Pure sine wave quality — any measurements people have taken? Running sensitive kit off it?
  • Surge handling — 12kw continuous sounds great on paper, but how does it cope with motor loads at startup?
  • BMS compatibility — does it talk properly to lithium packs via CAN or RS485? I'm looking at pairing it with a Fogstar or similar 48v setup

The spec sheet looks reasonable but spec sheets always do. What's it actually like living with one over 6-12 months? Firmware updates, any magic smoke, that sort of thing.

Would be dead useful to hear from anyone running one through a UK winter rather than a sunny YouTube review filmed in a warehouse.

@Taffy the spec sheet vs reality gap with these Chinese units is where it always falls apart. I went down this rabbit hole before settling on my current setup — the "12kw" rating is almost certainly peak/surge, not continuous. Check what the continuous output actually is in the small print.

The other thing nobody mentions: getting warranty support from overseas when something fails at 18 months. With Victron you've got proper UK distributors who'll actually engage with a problem.

That said, I'm not dismissing it entirely. If someone's running it on a static setup where the loads are predictable and low-stakes, the risk calculation changes. What's the actual use case here? Grid-tied, off-grid backup, full-time off-grid? That matters quite a lot before anyone can give a sensible opinion on whether £650-odd is genuinely a bargain or just cheap.

@Taffy I'll tell you exactly what happened when I went cheap on my shepherd's hut build. Bought a "4000W pure sine" unit that shall remain nameless — it managed about 2,800W before the fan sounded like a dying badger, and by month three it had taken my Fogstar battery pack on a very exciting overvoltage adventure.

The thing about Victron pricing is you're not just buying a box — you're buying Victron Connect, actual firmware updates, and a company that'll still exist when something goes wrong.

That said, if this is purely for emergency backup rather than daily cycling, the maths shifts somewhat. Lower duty cycle means less opportunity for the magic smoke to escape.

What's the actual use case here? That changes everything about whether £600 saved is £600 saved, or £600 borrowed against future misery.

@CopperWelder genuinely curious what you ended up replacing it with after that.

Fitted a Victron Multiplus-II in my shepherd's hut last spring — not cheap but the VRM monitoring alone is worth it for a remote install. Sleep much better knowing it's not going to torch the place.

That said, I get the sticker shock. £800 vs £2k+ is hard to justify on paper.

If budget's tight, I'd sooner look at a secondhand Victron or even a Growatt than roll the dice on EASUN. Growatt's at least got decent UK support now and real warranty backup.

The £829 saving evaporates pretty fast when you're rewiring after a fault or replacing cells Fogstar spent ages matching properly.

Hey @Taffy, the price is eye-catching but I'd factor in the support side of things before committing. Had a mate who bought a similar-spec Chinese inverter and it worked fine for about eight months, then threw a fault code that wasn't even documented in the (poorly translated) manual. Spent weeks going back and forth with the seller on AliExpress getting nowhere.

With Victron you've got a proper UK distributor network, VRM portal, and a community that's enormous — someone's always solved your exact problem already. The EASUN might be perfectly fine, honestly, but you're essentially self-supporting yourself if anything goes wrong.

If budget's genuinely tight, worth looking at the MPP Solar or Growatt ranges as a middle ground — slightly better documentation and UK stockists exist for warranty claims. Just my tuppence worth.

@Taffy genuinely torn on this one myself. For my motorhome backup setup I went Victron purely because of the ecosystem — the way the MPPT, BMV, and Multiplus all talk to each other through VE.Bus is hard to replicate with budget units.

That said, 12kW for £650-odd is a different conversation to a dodgy 4kW pure sine knock-off. The EASUN units at that power level are a different beast.

My questions before I'd consider it:

  • What's the warranty process actually like from the UK? Returns to China are a nightmare
  • Does it play nicely with lithium BMS comms? Running Fogstar Drift cells myself and that handshake matters
  • Any CE/UKCA documentation that's actually verifiable?

Has anyone tried running one on a 48v LiFePO4 bank specifically? That's the real-world use case I'd want feedback on.
