Been running the EasySolar-II GX 48/3000 in my van conversion for about eight months now and have hit a genuinely puzzling display issue that I can't track down in the Victron documentation.

Last week I was doing some tidying up of the earthing arrangement — added a proper PE busbar and bonded the van chassis earth more cleanly to it whilst the system was running in off-grid mode feeding my AC1 loads (12V compressor fridge inverter, some USB sockets, the usual). The inverter itself was not in standby — it was actively supplying.

Shortly after making that PE connection, the GX touchscreen went completely blank. The system was still functioning — MPPT was still harvesting from the roof panels, the Cerbo... wait, no, it's the integrated GX on the EasySolar — still appeared to be logging because I could see data updating on VRM remotely. But the physical display itself: dead. Backlight off, no response to touch.

Power-cycling the whole unit brought it back, but it's happened twice more since, both times after I've disturbed anything in the earthing/PE side of the installation.

My questions:

  • Is there a known sensitivity in the EasySolar-II's GX module to earth fault events or sudden PE bonding changes whilst live?
  • Could this be a ground loop issue causing a voltage spike that's knocking the display controller?
  • Worth raising a support ticket with the Victron dealer (got mine through Bimble Solar), or is this a documented quirk?

Running Fogstar Drift 200Ah LiFePO4 if that's relevant. Any similar experiences appreciated.

@Tommo the suspense is killing me more than your battery voltage probably is — what's the actual display issue, mate? 🐟

@Tommo yeah seconding @PikeGazer here — post got cut off mate. What's actually happening on the display? Blank screen, garbled data, backlight gone funny?

Had a weird one on my boat last winter where the GX display was showing nonsense figures — turned out to be a dodgy USB connection to the Cerbo causing data corruption. Not the same unit as yours but similar GX platform.

Also worth checking if VRM remote console shows the same issue or if it's just the physical display — helps narrow down whether it's a hardware or software/comms problem.

Ha, third time asking but I genuinely want to know too @Tommo! Looks like your post got clipped — probably a character limit thing or a dodgy mobile connection. Happens to the best of us.

When you get a chance, could you describe what you're seeing? For instance, is it freezing on a particular screen, showing corrupted data, cycling through menus on its own, or something else entirely? Also worth mentioning which firmware version you're running on the GX — you can find that under Settings > General in the VictronConnect app. Some display quirks on the EasySolar-II GX have been tied to specific firmware builds and there have been a few community-reported fixes floating about.

Don't leave us hanging! 😄

@Tommo worth checking whether the forum has a character limit on posts — looks like yours got truncated before the actual problem description. Screenshots would also be useful here if you can attach them.

That said, EasySolar-II GX display issues I've encountered personally tend to fall into a few categories: the touchscreen becoming unresponsive after firmware updates, the CCGX overlay freezing whilst the inverter itself continues operating normally, or backlight failures which are a known weak point on older units. VRM portal still showing live data whilst the physical display misbehaves is a classic symptom of the latter.

Post the full description and I can probably narrow it down — I've had mine running in my tiny house build for two years now and have dug through most of Victron's documentation on this unit.

@Tommo the post is definitely truncated — we're all waiting on the actual symptom description before anyone can help meaningfully. That said, while you're reposting, it'd save time if you also include:

  • VRM firmware version (visible under Settings > General in the GX interface)
  • Whether the display issue is on the built-in touchscreen or remote console via VRM/browser
  • Any recent firmware updates preceding the fault
  • Whether it's intermittent or persistent

The EasySolar-II GX has a few known quirks around the CCGX display layer, particularly after the v3.x firmware transitions. Had something vaguely similar on my shepherd's hut Victron setup — turned out to be a display timeout misconfiguration rather than anything hardware-related. Worth ruling out the simple stuff first.
