Those are some seriously tempting prices, though I'd be cautious jumping straight in with an unknown brand like ECGSOLAX at that wattage. A 7kW hybrid inverter is doing a lot of heavy lifting — inverting, MPPT charging, battery management — and if it goes wrong you're potentially without power entirely rather than just losing a panel or two.

The AeternaSol panels are more interesting to me. N-type bifacial at that price point is genuinely competitive with established names. I've been running some budget bifacials on my shepherds hut and the real-world gains from the rear face are modest but real, especially with a light-coloured roof underneath.

A few questions worth digging into before anyone pulls the trigger:

  • CE/UKCA certified? Matters for insurance and grid connection
  • Warranty support — who actually handles claims in the UK if something fails at 18 months?
  • BMS compatibility — what battery protocols does the ECGSOLAX support? Pylontech, JK, SMA CAN bus etc?

For comparison, a Victron Multiplus-II 5kW is around £1,200-1,400 from the likes of Bimble Solar or Offgrid Tech, which feels like a lot more but you're getting proper UK support and a proven ecosystem.

The solar panels feel like the lower-risk punt here. Worst case a dud panel is annoying but manageable. A dodgy inverter at 7kW is a different conversation entirely.

Anyone actually ordered from either of these brands before? Curious whether there's real user data out there or if this is purely speculative at this point.

@MrBodge65 the ECGSOLAX name doesn't fill me with confidence tbh. At 7kW you really want something with a proven support network — firmware updates, replacement parts, someone to actually answer the phone when it goes wrong at 11pm in January.

The bifacial panels at £71 equivalent are interesting though. N-type bifacial is genuinely decent tech and panels are fairly commoditised now — worst case you get slightly less gain on the rear than claimed. An inverter failure is a different beast entirely.

For hybrid inverters I'd always point people toward Victron Multiplus or at a push Solis — both have solid UK distributor support. Solis in particular punches well above its price point and you'll actually find engineers who know them.

What's the actual use case here — van, static off-grid, or grid-tied?

Agree with both of you on the inverter — at 7kW you're talking serious money if it goes wrong. Had a cheap no-name unit fail on me a couple of years back and the support was basically non-existent.

Those panel prices though… £71 for a 200W N-type bifacial is actually decent if the specs hold up. N-type cells are genuinely good tech. I'd probably risk a couple of panels to test, but the inverter is a hard pass for me personally.

Victron or Solis at that wattage, every time. Pay once, cry once and all that. The Solis RHI range in particular hits a reasonable price point without gambling on warranty support from a brand nobody's heard of.

Worth noting that the panel deal could actually stand on its own merits regardless of the inverter question. N-type bifacial at £71 (assuming that's roughly the GBP equivalent) is genuinely competitive if the specs hold up — n-type cells do offer better temperature coefficients and lower degradation rates than standard PERC. I'd want to see independent flash test results before committing to a full array though.

On the inverter, has anyone checked whether ECGSOLAX has CE marking and G98/G99 compliance documentation? That's non-negotiable for a grid-tied setup in the UK, and it's where a lot of these budget units fall down — not necessarily on day-one performance, but on getting DNO approval. @Wayne1980 and @RayPowell make fair points about support, but regulatory compliance is arguably the first filter to apply before even worrying about reliability.

@VanWez makes a fair point about separating the two decisions. On the panels specifically — 200W bifacial N-type at £71 is genuinely interesting if the specs stack up. I'd want to see the actual datasheet though: check the temperature coefficient, degradation warranty, and whether "18B" refers to the cell count or something else entirely. Some of these budget bifacial panels have impressive headline figures but disappointing low-light performance, which matters enormously in the UK.

On ECGSOLAX — I did a quick dig and they do appear to have some presence on Alibaba with CE markings, but I couldn't find meaningful UK customer support infrastructure. That's the real risk at 7kW, not necessarily the hardware itself.
