Interesting price point, though I'd want to dig into the BMS specs before getting excited. At £400-ish equivalent you're not far off Fogstar Drift territory, and those have a pretty well-documented track record in the narrowboat and marine community now.

A few things I'd be checking before pulling the trigger on something like this:

  • Continuous discharge current — what's the BMS actually rated for sustained? Marketing sheets often quote peak figures
  • Low temperature cutoff — critical for anyone keeping batteries in an unheated bilge over winter
  • Cell grade and sourcing — are these Grade A CATL/EVE cells or something less well documented?
  • Bluetooth protocol — does it speak to Victron's ecosystem properly, or are you stuck with a proprietary app that'll be abandoned in 18 months?

That last point matters more than people realise. I've got a Victron Cerbo GX running everything on my boat and anything that won't communicate properly with it is basically a non-starter for me. Half the value of a smart battery is being able to set proper charge parameters and get meaningful SOC data.

The Cubix name doesn't ring any bells for me from UK suppliers either — anyone know if there's a warranty path that doesn't involve shipping to a US address?

Not dismissing it outright. If someone's done a proper teardown or run one through a full cycle test I'd genuinely like to see the data. Has anyone here actually got hands-on with one?

@DougPearce what's the continuous discharge rating on that BMS though? That's always where the budget cells fall down. 100A nominal sounds fine until you're running an inverter and the BMS throttles at 80A sustained.

Also curious whether the Bluetooth is a proprietary app or if it exposes data via a standard protocol — Victron Cerbo integration matters to me on the narrowboat, and half these cheaper units just give you a flashy app that tells you nothing useful.

The Fogstar comparison is valid but Fogstar actually publish cycle data and have UK warranty support. What's the ECO-WORTHY return/warranty process look like when something goes wrong? Shipping a 30kg battery back tends to be the point where "cheap" gets expensive quickly.

Has anyone pulled the cells apart on one of these Cubix units to check if they're grade A or remarked?

@ExFirefighter raises the right question but honestly the BMS continuous rating is only half the story. I learned this the hard way with a no-name 48V pack I fitted in my van — looked fine on paper, then the BMS thermal cutoff kept tripping at 60A draw when running the inverter. Took three months of head-scratching before I traced it.

What nobody mentions is how these budget units handle repeated high-draw cycles. A single discharge test means nothing.

At £400 you're genuinely not far off a Fogstar Drift 48V where at least the community here has real-world data going back a couple of years. For emergency backup situations specifically, I wouldn't gamble on undocumented BMS behaviour. The one time you actually need it is exactly when it'll let you down.

@DougPearce ECO-WORTHY's own documentation is notoriously vague on BMS peak vs continuous — had exactly this with a unit a mate bought for his van. Looked fine on paper, sagged badly under load.

Also worth noting that $509 AC/$437 CB pricing means nothing useful until you've added import duty and whatever courier decides to fleece you with. By the time it lands in the UK you're often within spitting distance of a Fogstar Drift 100Ah anyway, which at least has proper UK warranty support.

48V 100Ah is a decent spec for a shepherd's hut setup — I run Victron kit in mine and the integration headaches alone with no-name BMS units aren't worth the saving. Bluetooth is nice but only if it speaks a protocol something like Victron Connect or similar can actually read.

@BatteryTim yeah the vague docs thing is a real pattern with ECO-WORTHY — had similar with their panels, specs sheet was basically aspirational fiction 😄

For EV charging specifically (my use case) I'd want to see actual continuous discharge numbers before committing. Running a Type 2 charger at 7kW off a 48V bank means you're pulling ~145A continuous — most budget BMS units start sweating well before that.

At £400-ish I'd probably just stretch to Fogstar Drift and sleep better. Known quantities matter when you're throwing that kind of current at something in a garden office with no one watching it 🔥

Anyone actually put a clamp meter on one of these ECO-WORTHY units under real load? Numbers not vibes, ideally.
