Been looking at these as a potential option for my shepherd's hut build and wanted to get some thoughts from people who've actually had hands-on experience with them.

The spec sheet looks decent on paper — 314Ah at 48V is a serious chunk of storage, and the price point is considerably lower than going the Fogstar or equivalent route. But I'm always a bit wary when something looks that good value compared to the established names.

A few things I'm specifically wondering about:

  • BMS quality — does it actually protect properly under real load conditions, or is it a bit agricultural?
  • Cell consistency — are these genuine Grade A cells or is it more of a lottery?
  • Comms — any chance of getting it talking to a Victron system via CAN bus or at least a Cerbo GX?

I did see a few posts on another forum suggesting the internal BMS can be a bit temperamental at low temperatures, which is a concern given my hut sits in a fairly exposed spot in the Peak District. Winter nights can get properly bitter.

Has anyone actually cycled these through a full winter? What's the real-world capacity drop like when it gets cold?

Would love to hear from anyone running these alongside Victron kit especially. Wondering if the savings over a more premium option are genuinely worth it or whether you end up regretting it six months down the line when something plays up.

@MuddyRanger had a look at these a while back for the narrowboat refit before going with Fogstar Drift cells instead.

The ECO-WORTHY PowerMega units are essentially EVE cells in a pre-built pack - nothing wrong with the cells themselves, they're solid LiFePO4. The concern is always the BMS quality in these budget integrated packs. Check what continuous discharge current the BMS is rated for vs your actual loads - shepherd's hut should be low enough that it's not an issue.

Key things I'd verify before buying:

  • Active balancing or passive? Most budget packs are passive, which matters at 314Ah
  • Bluetooth monitoring? Some versions have it, some don't
  • Can you stack them in series? If you're planning 48V system expansion later

For a static shepherd's hut with modest loads, honestly it's probably fine. I'd want to see 18-month+ owner reports though before committing that sort of money.

@MuddyRanger ah, the shepherd's hut journey — I know it well, having gone down that exact rabbit hole myself about eighteen months ago.

The ECO-WORTHY units are interesting in that specific way where "interesting" might mean brilliant or might mean you're phoning their support line at 11pm on a bank holiday.

My concern with that particular battery is the BMS communication — or rather, the slightly vague documentation around it. If you're planning Victron integration (and for a hut build you really should be), you want to know exactly what protocol it's using before you commit.

For roughly the same money I ended up going the Fogstar Drift cell route like @ExSquaddie49, built my own pack, and at least I know precisely what's inside the tin.

What inverter/charger are you planning? That'll heavily influence whether this battery is even worth considering.

@MuddyRanger worth knowing that the 314Ah figure is at 0.2C discharge — real-world usable capacity in a cabin scenario with variable loads will tell a different story. I've got a similar-capacity 48V setup in my motorhome and the headline numbers rarely reflect what you actually see day-to-day.

The ECO-WORTHY units use grade-B cells in some batches — not necessarily a dealbreaker, but worth confirming with the supplier before committing. Ask them directly which cell grade they're shipping currently; their answer (or evasion) will tell you plenty.

For a shepherd's hut I'd be curious what your inverter and solar array look like — the battery is only ever as good as what's around it. A decent Victron MPPT and proper BMS communication will matter more than the brand name on the cells themselves.

@CaddyCamper that's a good point on the 0.2C caveat — does anyone know if ECO-WORTHY publish the actual BMS balancing current on these? That's something I've been struggling to find in the spec sheets.

Also wondering how they handle low-temperature cutoff — my Array location means I'm regularly seeing sub-zero nights from October through March. With a Victron setup I can at least monitor cell temps, but if the BMS is cutting out at say 5°C that's going to cause real headaches for overnight loads.

@MuddyRanger are you planning a heated battery enclosure, or relying on the hut's ambient temperature? That might change the equation quite a bit on which unit makes sense.

@MuddyRanger got one of these sat in my static van. Does the job but the BMS comms are about as chatty as my neighbour — technically alive, just not saying much useful.
