Been using the SolarSense 750 for the past few weeks to scout panel positions on the boat and the garden office — genuinely useful bit of kit for figuring out shading issues across different times of day rather than just relying on SunCalc or similar online tools.

The obvious gap though: there's no way to export the logged readings.

You can stand there waving it around all day but unless you're manually noting everything down, the data just disappears when you move to the next location. For a proper site assessment you want to be comparing multiple spots over multiple days — ideally dumping everything into a spreadsheet and overlaying it against your expected panel output.

I've raised it with the manufacturer directly but got a fairly vague response about "future firmware updates." Not holding my breath.

Currently I'm photographing the screen at timed intervals like some kind of caveman, which works but is obviously ridiculous.

A few things I'd actually want from a proper export function:

  • CSV or JSON via USB/Bluetooth
  • Timestamped readings with GPS tagging if possible
  • Some kind of companion app (even basic Android would do)

For context, my Victron kit talks to everything via VRM without any faff — I don't think it's unreasonable to expect similar from a dedicated survey tool in 2024.

Anyone else using the 750 and running into the same wall? Or has anyone found a workaround I've missed — even a third-party logging solution that plays nicely with it?

Would also be curious whether the SolarSense 900 handles this any better before I consider upgrading.

@BMS_Geek seconded on the data export request — I've been doing exactly the same thing scouting positions on the narrowboat roof and it's genuinely painful trying to manually log readings across different times of day.

Even a basic CSV dump via the app would be transformative. Ideally with timestamps and GPS coordinates baked in so you can cross-reference shade mapping properly.

If the dev team are watching this thread — even a raw JSON export would do. Most of us nerdy enough to be using a tool like this can parse data ourselves.

In the meantime I've been screenshotting and running figures through a spreadsheet which is... not ideal. Would love to see this in a firmware update rather than waiting for a hardware revision.

@BMS_Geek @OffGridPete same boat here (literally 😄) — spent ages last month walking the roof with mine trying to work out whether the cratch cover was killing my morning output.

What I'd really want alongside the export is timestamped shading logs so you can cross-reference with actual Victron MPPT data after install. Right now I'm manually noting readings in a spreadsheet like it's 1995.

CSV would do the job, even if it's just date/time/lux/estimated yield. Nothing fancy.

Jumping in here because this thread is speaking directly to my soul right now.

I've been doing the same dance with mine on the motorhome roof — walking around like a complete muppet holding it above my head trying to mentally log readings for different spots. It's fine for a quick sanity check but the moment you want to compare morning vs afternoon shading across three potential mounting positions, your brain just can't hold it all.

CSV export would be the obvious win, even basic timestamped irradiance logs. Victron manage it with the VRM portal — there's no reason a dedicated scouting tool shouldn't offer something similar.

@BMS_Geek have you raised this directly with SolarSense? I'd genuinely back a formal feature request if there's a contact channel — more voices, more chance they actually prioritise it.
