Been thinking about this after poking around Venus OS on my setup at the static.

When I'm in the overview on the GX console, tapping certain devices jumps you straight into their settings — handy enough. But it feels a bit inconsistent. Click the battery and you get useful detail. Click something else and you're down a rabbit hole of menus that don't quite match what you were expecting.

What I'd actually love to see is a proper drill-down from the overview that's consistent across all connected devices. So whether it's my Victron MPPT, the Multiplus, or a DC-DC charger like an Orion — tapping it gives you the same logical layout every time. Live stats up top, settings below, maybe a quick history graph if available.

Right now it feels like some devices got the full treatment and others were a bit of an afterthought in the UI.

Also — and this might just be me — but on a small tablet or phone screen the touch targets on the overview are tiny. On a damp morning trying to check the state of charge before heading out, it's more faff than it needs to be.

Anyone else finding the navigation a bit patchy depending on which device you tap? Curious whether this is something Victron are actively improving or if there's a Venus OS version I should be on that's already tidied some of this up.

Running v3.3 at the moment on a Cerbo GX if that's relevant.

@BurnGlen yeah the inconsistency bugs me too. Some tiles are tappable, others are dead — no obvious logic to it.

What I'd want alongside that: a proper "favourites" layer on the overview. My Multiplus, MPPT and battery are the three things I actually care about — everything else is noise most of the time.

Raised something similar on the Victron Community forum a while back. The devs do actually read those, and Venus OS has moved pretty quickly lately — large display support, ESS tweaks, etc. Worth cross-posting there with specific device examples of which tiles should be tappable but aren't. Concrete bug reports get more traction than general feature requests.

GitHub's also worth a look — there's an open issues list and the community plugin scene has patched around a few gaps like this already.

@BurnGlen this is one of those things that sounds minor until you're crouched in the back of a van at midnight trying to navigate three menus deep just to check your MPPT settings. The inconsistency is genuinely maddening.

What I'd actually love alongside this — a long-press vs short-press distinction. Short tap = overview/status, long press = jump straight into device settings. Victron's UI team clearly can do thoughtful UX when they want to (the VRM portal is decent), so it's frustrating this hasn't carried over to the local console.

Worth raising directly on the Victron Community forum too — they do actually pick stuff up from there. The Venus OS GitHub has open issues for similar nav complaints if anyone wants to upvote rather than just wishlist on here.

@BurnGlen this catches me out regularly on the narrowboat — especially when I'm trying to drill into the Multi's AC input settings quickly and end up tapping dead space in the dark.

Worth raising directly on the Victron Community forum and/or the Venus OS GitHub issue tracker. The devs are reasonably responsive to well-documented UX requests, particularly if you can specify which tiles, what you'd expect them to link to, and the firmware version you're running.

My suspicion is the inconsistency comes from different device integrations being added piecemeal over Venus OS versions — some tiles were never wired up to a detail view because the underlying device page didn't exist yet.

A consolidated "tappable tile map" request with clear before/after behaviour descriptions would land better than a vague UX complaint. Worth coordinating between a few of us here before posting.

@AshWalker same boat (literally) — the Multi AC input inconsistency is a proper pain when you're trying to check grid/shore power status quickly.

What I'd add to this feature request: even just a visual cue would help. If a tile isn't tappable, grey it out or remove the chevron. Half the frustration isn't the limitation itself, it's not knowing whether you've got a dodgy touchscreen or the tile genuinely does nothing.

Running a Cerbo GX on the narrowboat and I've lost count of how many times I've jabbed at the PV charger tile expecting to land in the MPPT settings. You don't, obviously. You just... stay there.

Victron's forum has had similar threads going back a few versions — would be worth cross-posting there if someone hasn't already, they do actually pick these things up occasionally.

@RobBennett93 the grid/shore inconsistency caught me out spectacularly last summer — moored up in Limehouse Basin, convinced the shore power was live because the overview looked fine, only to realise I'd been slowly flattening my Fogstar batteries for three hours because the tap-through wasn't showing me what I thought it was.

What I'd genuinely love is a long-press versus short-press distinction — short tap gives you the quick glance panel, long press dives into full settings. Keeps the overview snappy for normal use but gets you where you need to be without the three-screen shuffle.

Victron's forum is worth cross-posting this on if nobody has already — they do actually pick stuff up from there, and Venus OS has had some surprisingly community-driven tweaks land in recent releases.
