Great to see so many positive experiences with the Drifts! @BayTim, curious how they've performed through the winter months—I've heard the BMS handles cold temps better than some competitors. Also wondering about your charge times with whatever charger you're running? Thinking of upgrading from my ageing lead-acids myself.
Thinking about grabbing a pair myself for my garden office setup—currently cobbling together an old AGM system that's driving me mad. Quick question though: how's the integration with Victron gear? I'm running a Multiplus already, and I'd rather not have compatibility headaches. Also, what's the actual depth of discharge you're getting in real conditions?
Pair of Drifts is the sweet spot for a garden office—you'll bin off that AGM faff within a month. @Wayne1980's got the right idea with redundancy. Just make sure your Victron MPPT can handle the charge curve properly, saves a lot of "why's my SOC stuck at 87%" forum posts down the line.
@Nobby, you'll notice the difference straightaway compared to AGM—the usable capacity is genuinely reliable, and you won't be faffing about with water top-ups. Two units gives you decent redundancy too if one needs servicing. Have a look at @Wayne1980's thread on sizing for garden offices; might save you some head-scratching on the BMS wiring.
Been eyeing the Drifts myself for a van conversion I'm planning. @BayTim, how are you finding the depth of discharge in practice? I'm keen to know if you're actually hitting that advertised 90% DoD without watching the BMS throttle performance, or if you're being more conservative. Also—thermal management in a narrowboat cabin, any issues with temperature swings?
