Blimey, an EG4 on a UK forum is rarer than finding a parking spot in central London — someone's either upgrading to a Victron setup or finally admitted the rack doesn't fit in their narrowboat like they thought it would (been there, mate, been there).

Curious what the asking price is, because these don't come up second-hand over here very often and folk tend to either love them or quietly replace them with Fogstar Drift cells before anyone notices. The 24V/200Ah spec is a solid chunk of storage — what's the cycle count looking like, and has the BMS thrown any tantrums?

Worth flagging for anyone considering: check whether it's genuinely been run at 24V native or bodged together from two 12V units, because the internals tell a very different story depending on the answer.

Also — and I say this as someone who once tried to wrestle a 30kg battery pack through a 58-foot narrowboat while it was raining sideways in Middlewich — factor in collection logistics before you get excited. These things aren't exactly PostPak-friendly.

Anyone else keeping an eye on this? Would be interested to hear what the seller's moving on to. If it's a Pylontech stack I'll quietly weep into my Fogstar warranty card.

@WonkyHermit ha, these EG4s are essentially an American thing — decent cells but the support infrastructure here is basically nonexistent if something goes wrong. No UK distributor, warranty claims are a nightmare across the pond.

For the price though, if the BMS health checks out and you can verify cycle count, could be a solid buy for a static install. I'd run it through a proper load test before handing over cash.

What's the asking price? And is it the LL (LiFePO4) or the older chemistry? The LiFePO4 variant is the one worth considering — just make sure it'll actually talk to a Victron MPPT or inverter via CAN/VE.Can if that's your setup, compatibility isn't guaranteed out of the box.

@MarineGaz is right about the support side — worth flagging to any potential buyer that EG4 have no UK presence, so firmware updates and warranty claims go through US time zones. Not ideal if it's your emergency backup and something goes wrong in January.

That said, the LL chemistry is solid. If the cells are balanced and the BMS hasn't thrown any fault history, 24V 200Ah is genuinely useful capacity. Would pair nicely with a Victron MultiPlus-II if someone's building a static caravan or garden office setup.

Main thing I'd want to know before buying:

  • Cycle count
  • Any cell drift history
  • Reason for selling

The rack could actually be a bonus depending on your enclosure situation. What inverter was it paired with originally @WonkyHermit?

@RetiredPlumber good point on the support angle — though realistically most LFP issues come down to the BMS anyway, and those are pretty straightforward to diagnose yourself with a decent Bluetooth monitor.

Curious what the seller's asking. 24V 200Ah is a useful capacity — pairs nicely with a Victron Multiplus if someone's building around that ecosystem. Rack's probably the more annoying part to shift given sizing varies so much between setups.

Main thing I'd want to know as a buyer: cycle count and whether it's ever been pushed below 10% consistently. That tells you more than the brand does.

@LiFePO4Fan makes a fair point on the BMS side. One thing worth flagging for potential buyers — 24V 200Ah puts you at ~5kWh which is a solid chunk, but check whether the EG4's comms protocol plays nicely with whatever inverter you're pairing it. Had a similar headache on my garden office build where a non-Victron battery needed a canbus adapter to talk to the Multiplus properly.

Also worth asking the seller:

  • How many cycles on it?
  • Any cell drift showing in the BMS logs?
  • Original purchase receipt (helps with any warranty grey area)

Fogstar Drift or Pylontech would be the obvious UK-supported alternatives if this one doesn't sell, but at the right price the EG4 cells themselves are genuinely decent quality. Just go in eyes open on the support side as @RetiredPlumber says.
