Cheers for the reshuffle. Been needing a dedicated tiny house section for ages — too many caravan threads cluttering up the general chat.

The new search function's already saving me time. Was digging through months of posts last week trying to find that Victron config someone shared, would've killed for this back then.

One thing though — any chance of a subsection for battery setups? Seems like half the questions here revolve around LiFePO4 vs lead-acid, and it'd be proper handy to have everything in one place. Currently it's scattered across solar, electrics, and storage.

Also noticed the "following threads" feature. Game changer if you're juggling multiple projects. My caravan's almost complete and I'm already planning the tiny house for next year, so being able to track different conversations is brilliant.

Reckon this'll attract more folk too. The forum's been quieter than usual, but better organisation might draw in people who've been lurking.

What's everyone else thinking? Anyone else got features they've been wanting added? Would be good to know what's actually useful versus what's just clutter.

Search function's a game-changer — finally can filter out all the "is my Victron overkill" posts without wading through seventeen pages of nonsense.

The tiny house category's long overdue, though I reckon you'll still get van conversions bleeding into it for another six months until people realise there's a difference between a 3.5-tonner with solar panels and an actual fixed structure. Already seeing it happen with the garden office crowd trying to work out if their setup belongs in permanent dwellings or lifestyle.

Minor gripe: would've been nice to have a dedicated troubleshooting section rather than burying fault codes in the general technical chat, but can't complain about free improvements.

The search function is genuinely brilliant. I've already used it to pull up all the battery sizing threads without drowning in the "help my van won't start" posts.

Though I'd say the dedicated sections help more than people realise — especially separating fixed off-grid builds from mobile setups. My van conversion's got completely different constraints than someone's shepherd's hut, so having that clarity in the categorisation means I'm actually reading relevant threads instead of skimming past stuff that doesn't apply.

One thing I'd suggest: tagging posts by power source (solar, wind, hydro, grid-hybrid) so you can filter within categories. Right now I'm still manually searching "battery monitoring" across multiple sections to find Victron setup threads versus cheaper alternatives.

Good work on this though. Forum's getting proper usable now.

Spot on about the dedicated sections — really needed that split. Tiny house power systems are a completely different beast from caravan setups, especially when you're dealing with permanent installations and proper earthing requirements.

Search function's brilliant for troubleshooting too. Been able to dig up old Victron config threads without scrolling through ten pages of unrelated stuff. Saves hours when you're trying to sort a specific inverter issue or battery monitoring problem.

One thing I'd find handy — a way to filter by location or climate? Loads of US advice floating about that doesn't translate to UK winter conditions. But not complaining, this update's solid.

Been lurking on the old layout for a couple years, and this is a proper improvement. The search function's already proven its worth — managed to dig up a thread from 2019 about battery isolation in motorhomes that had the exact answer I needed. Would've taken forever scrolling through the general chat.

What's caught my eye though is the new categorisation actually lets you spot the gaps. I've got a Fogstar setup in the cabin and a separate Renogy system in the van, and searching specifically for cabin threads versus mobile installs has made it clearer how differently they need to be configured. Cheers to whoever pushed this through.

The tiny house section @RelayDream mentioned should help too — those systems run year-round with completely different load profiles compared to seasonal cabin use. Makes sense splitting them out properly rather than having everything dumped under "battery and power."

Only thing I'd suggest: maybe a pinned thread in each section with common questions and preferred brands for that category? Might reduce some of the repetitive posts everyone's clearly tired of.

The search function's genuinely handy, though I'm finding the real win is having the van conversion stuff separated out. Used to wade through tiny house battery debates trying to find relevant load profiles for a 3.5-tonne setup — apples and oranges, really.

My emergency backup rig's a bit of a hybrid honestly — started as a van project, evolved into something more permanent. The old layout made it impossible to track threads across both categories without losing the plot. Now I can actually follow the specialist conversations without crossover confusion.

Only thing I'd suggest: might be worth a sticky in the van section about duty cycle differences between permanent off-grid and mobile setups. Seen too many people spec their Victron kit based on full-time tiny house assumptions, then wonder why their battery's struggling when they're drawing consistently from a moving vehicle.

Cheers for the admin work sorting this lot out though. Makes a difference.

Brilliant to see everyone getting good use out of the changes already. I'd echo what @RustyTinker says — the reorganisation's definitely made a difference even this early on.

One thing I've found handy is that separating the tiny house and van conversion threads means you can actually follow conversations without getting bogged down in irrelevant gear discussions. The power systems for a static structure are just fundamentally different from what you need on wheels, so it's nice to have that clarity.

The search improvement is genuinely useful too. I've been able to dig up some older posts on battery sizing that I'd have struggled to find before — saves reinventing the wheel when someone's already solved the same problem.

Has anyone else noticed if the new layout's made it easier to find specific build threads? I'm wondering if we should start a sticky with links to popular projects, just to help newcomers get oriented.

Finally, a dedicated tiny house section that isn't buried under 47 threads about motorhome solar installations — my search history thanks you.

The real MVP though is having van conversions sectioned off; was getting proper confused trying to find advice for my fixed setup amongst all the "how do I fit 12 panels on a Ford Transit" posts. Brilliant for keeping things relevant.

Only gripe is the new layout's made me realise just how many of us are running Victron kit — not complaining, just noticed the pattern when browsing the battery threads. Reckon we should have a "what's actually popular in 2024" megathread so newbies stop asking if Renogy's still the move.

The reorganisation's definitely worth the effort. What's made the biggest difference for me is having EV charging properly separated out — was getting buried under general solar queries before. Makes it way easier to find relevant battery sizing discussions when you're not wading through unrelated threads.

The search improvements are solid too. I've been able to track down some older Victron config threads I'd completely lost, which was useful for troubleshooting my Multiplus setup last month.

One thing worth mentioning: if anyone's got a garden office setup running off-grid like mine, the new categories should help consolidate those conversations. They were scattered everywhere previously — some in general, some in "other applications," some nowhere useful. Hopefully that means better consolidated knowledge about hybrid power solutions for workspace builds.

Worth flagging that the forum software's handling the increased traffic well. No lag on searches or loading, which matters when you're trying to quickly cross-reference specs before ordering kit.

Yeah, the search function's brilliant. Spent half my time before wading through irrelevant posts — now I can actually find narrowboat-specific threads without scrolling forever.

One thing though — would be handy if we could filter by setup type (static caravan, narrowboat, etc.) rather than just category. Loads of advice doesn't transfer between them. Like, my 200Ah LiFePO4 setup works great in the boat but the thermal management's completely different in the caravan during summer.

Also noticing the mobile layout's actually usable now, which matters when you're out site and need quick answers. Cheers for sorting that.

The search improvements are genuinely handy. I've been hunting for specific Victron config threads for months — would've saved me a fortune in time before.

What I'm chuffed about though is the EV charging getting its own space. Been trying to figure out how to wire my boat's shore power setup to charge an EV occasionally without completely redesigning everything, and having dedicated threads for that should help. @CarlBaker's right that it was buried before.

One thing I'd still flag — the emergency backup category could maybe use a subsection for battery backup vs genset debates? I've got both running here and keep finding relevant posts scattered across different sections. Not a massive issue now that search works better, but might keep things tidier as the forum grows.

Agreed on the search function — been able to dig up old boat electrical threads I'd completely forgotten about. The category split's proper useful too. My van build's got lost in caravan chat too many times. Curious whether there'll be a dedicated battery storage section eventually, or if that stays lumped in with general off-grid?

The dedicated tiny house section's going to be a game-changer for my shepherds hut setup — been scrolling past irrelevant caravan builds forever. What's really caught my eye though is whether the search will help me track down those old EV charging threads from a couple years back. Could be gold dust for planning my next install.
