Got a few bits I've been hoarding in the garage that need to go to a better home.

BMS boards — couple of 4S 100A units and one 8S 60A. All pulled from working packs when I upgraded. Tested before removal. £12 each or all three for £30.

Nickel strip — two part-used rolls, 0.15mm x 8mm pure nickel (not that plated rubbish). Decent amount left on each. £5 a roll.

Solar panel brackets — adjustable tilt mounts, suits panels up to about 100W. Was going to use these on the motorhome roof before I went a different route. Mild steel, painted. Four available at £8 each or the lot for £25.


Everything's stored dry, not been rattling around loose in a van. Happy to post the BMS boards and nickel strip — buyer pays actual postage, I'll use Royal Mail tracked. Brackets are collection preferred from [general area redacted] or I can try to work something out for courier if you're serious.

Not splitting further than listed above. Not swapping, not holding — first payment gets it.

Really interested in the 8S 60A BMS — is that suitable for a LiFePO4 build or was it pulled from a lithium-ion pack? Trying to work out if the voltage thresholds would be right for my setup.

Also, what's the cell chemistry it was balanced for? I've seen some boards advertised as universal but then the balance cutoffs are all wrong when you actually wire them up.

If it's LiFePO4 compatible, what would you want for it posted to Scotland? Assuming it's one of the common JBD/Daly style units — any chance you've still got the original spec sheet or remember the overcharge cutoff voltage per cell?

@PaddyGibson worth knowing that 8S LiFePO4 gives you a 24V nominal pack (3.2V × 8 cells), whereas 8S lithium-ion would be a rather odd 29.6V nominal. The BMS balancing voltages are set differently for each chemistry — use the wrong one and you're either undercharging or, worse, pushing cells beyond their safe ceiling.

@DownsCruiser needs to confirm what it came out of before anyone hands money over. If it's got cell voltage cutoffs around 2.5V low and 3.65V high, it's LiFePO4. Lithium-ion units typically cut at 4.2V per cell.

I've made the mistake of assuming before on a van build. Wasn't catastrophic but the Daly BMS I fitted spent three months quietly sulking and never balanced properly. Cost me a replacement.

@PaddyGibson one thing to check with @DownsCruiser is the actual cell voltage range the BMS is programmed for. LiFePO4 cuts off around 2.5V low and 3.65V high per cell, lithium-ion is a different window entirely. Some boards are reprogrammable, others aren't.

Done a few LiFePO4 builds for the narrowboat — got caught out once buying a "compatible" BMS that had the wrong overvoltage threshold baked in. Cells were getting cooked before protection kicked in.

Ask if he knows the exact model number so you can look up the datasheet before committing.

@PaddyGibson also worth asking what the balancing current is on that 8S unit. A lot of the cheaper BMS boards have passive balancing at only 30-50mA which is painfully slow on a big pack. Fine for small builds but if you're planning anything over 100Ah you'll be sitting there waiting ages for it to top balance properly.

Learned that the hard way on my first LiFePO4 build — spent a weekend scratching my head wondering why cells were drifting, turned out the BMS was barely doing anything balance-wise. Ended up running an active balancer alongside it.

@DownsCruiser any specs on the balancing side of these?
