Been running a Goodwe GW3648D-ES in my static caravan for about 18 months now and the off-grid-only setup was... an adventure, let me say that much.
The big gotcha with Goodwe hybrids used purely off-grid is the grid port configuration. Out of the box they want to see a grid reference to behave properly. Took me an embarrassing number of evenings with the settings menus before I found the "off-grid mode" buried in the advanced configuration — and even then the voltage and frequency tolerances needed tweaking or she'd fault out constantly.
What I eventually landed on:
- Off-Grid Mode enabled obviously
- AC output voltage set to 230V (check yours defaults to 240V, which caused me grief)
- Battery type set correctly — I'm running Fogstar Drift LiFePO4 and had to set custom BMS parameters via the SEMS portal rather than trusting the presets
The Goodwe SEMS app is genuinely decent for monitoring once it's all talking, though getting the WiFi dongle to connect was its own little saga.
One thing I'd warn anyone about — the Goodwe off-grid inverters aren't quite as battle-hardened for pure island mode as a Victron Multiplus. They're cheaper for a reason. Mine handles my caravan loads absolutely fine, but I wouldn't trust one running a shepherd's hut workshop with heavy inductive loads.
Anyone else found quirks with the frequency shifting for load control? I've been trying to get mine to communicate with a Renogy MPPT via that method and it's been hit and miss.
Curious what battery setups others have paired with these — particularly interested if anyone's got CAN bus comms working properly.
