Been wrestling with something similar on a smaller scale in my shepherd's hut setup, so this caught my eye.
Had a mate recently trying to integrate a single-phase AC PV inverter into a 3-phase Quattro system on his off-grid smallholding in Wales. No MK3-USB to hand, and he kept hitting VE.Bus Error 19 — which as most of you probably know is the phase synchronisation fault. Basically the system can't handshake properly between the inverter phases without the dongle allowing configuration changes.
The thing that frustrated him (and me, watching from the sidelines) is that Victron's documentation implies you can get quite far without the MK3, but in practice, any meaningful 3-phase configuration seems to need VEConfigure access at some point. You're a bit stuffed without it.
A few questions worth throwing out:
- Has anyone managed a workaround using VRM remote configuration instead? Wondering if that sidesteps the MK3 requirement in some scenarios
- Is the Error 19 definitely phase sync, or could it be something else masquerading in a 3-phase setup?
- Anyone using a Fronius or similar on the AC-coupled side with 3-phase Quattros and had similar grief?
I'm skeptical of the "just get the MK3 and crack on" answer because there's clearly more going on with load balancing across phases when you throw a single-phase inverter into the mix. Feels like the documentation glosses over this.
Interested to hear from anyone who's actually done this rather than just read the Victron manuals. Real-world installs only, please — the theory's all well and good but it doesn't always survive contact with actual kit.
