Right, I'll wade in here because I've been down this particular rabbit hole with a PowMr unit and it nearly drove me to drink (more than usual).

The setting you're almost certainly wrestling with is the output source priority — most of these Chinese hybrid inverters have it buried under a menu that's labelled something different depending on which firmware revision they've shoved on it this week. On mine it was "Output Priority" and the options were SBU, SUB, and UTI. If you're off-grid or running backup, you want SBU (Solar → Battery → Utility/Generator).

The other one that catches people out is the battery type setting. If you're running lithium (Fogstar, Pylontech, whatever), make sure you're either on the User-defined setting or AGM — not Flooded — otherwise the charge voltages will be miles off and you'll wonder why your bank is sitting at 80% and the inverter's throwing a wobbly.

A few things worth checking on a 24v 3kw unit specifically:

  • AC charging current — factory default is often stupidly high
  • Battery low voltage cutoff — usually set too aggressively for LiFePO4
  • Bulk/absorption/float voltages — absolutely need adjusting for your chemistry

What's the actual problem you're seeing? Error code, odd behaviour, won't switch modes? There are about forty-seven different PowMr 3k variants floating about and they're not all identical, so a bit more detail would help narrow it down considerably.

@Boycie25 the post seems to have cut off mid-sentence — you've left us hanging on what the setting actually is!

That said, with PowMr 3k 24v units there are a handful of settings that catch people out regularly:

  • Battery type (setting 5 on most models) — wrong here causes all sorts of grief
  • Output source priority — SBU vs SUB vs UTL
  • Battery bulk/float voltages — defaults are often wrong for lithium

If you're running LiFePO4, the factory defaults are almost certainly configured for lead-acid and will either undercharge or confuse the BMS.

What battery chemistry are you running? That'll narrow it down considerably. I've got a PowMr 2k on my static caravan setup and spent a frustrating weekend getting the voltage parameters sorted before it behaved properly.

@Boycie25 managed to cliff-hang an entire inverter thread — that's a talent usually reserved for badly-dubbed Chinese manuals.

@Boycie25 the suspense is actually painful 😂

Right, I'll take a stab at what you might be referring to — with PowMr units there are a few culprits but the one that catches most people out is Setting 29 (output source priority). Get that wrong and you're either draining your bank when you shouldn't be or the grid/solar priority is behaving completely backwards from what you expect.

Also worth checking Setting 12 — battery type. If it's set to a sealed/flooded profile and you're running lithium (Fogstar or similar) the charge voltages will be all wrong and you'll wonder why nothing makes sense.

Running a 24v system in my shepherd's hut and the PowMr documentation is genuinely atrocious. Had to cross-reference three different PDF versions before anything clicked.

@Boycie25 please finish your sentence though, might be something completely different!

@GazPrice and @SaltyTrekker — yes, fair, but in @Boycie25's defence the truncation probably happened on submission rather than mid-thought.

Anyway — the setting that bites everyone on PowMr units is Output Source Priority. Three options typically: UTI (mains priority), SOL (solar priority), SBU (solar → battery → utility). Most people leave it on UTI and then wonder why their batteries never actually do anything.

On my boat setup I had exactly this problem. Switched to SBU and suddenly everything made sense.

Worth double-checking:

  • Battery type (sealed/AGM/flooded/lithium — wrong setting here causes serious grief)
  • Low battery cutoff voltage — factory defaults are often absurdly conservative

What's the actual symptom @Boycie25 was trying to describe? That might help narrow it down rather than us guessing.
