Humsienk 48V 100Ah Wallmount Battery - Comms with EG4 6000xp

Has anyone managed to get proper comms working between one of these Humsienk wallmount units and an EG4 6000xp? I picked up a 48V 100Ah a few months back and whilst the battery itself seems to perform well enough, I can't get the BMS data to talk properly with the inverter.

I've been through the usual RS485 settings and tried various protocols in the EG4 menu but nothing's sticking. The inverter just defaults to generic battery mode rather than reading the actual SoC and cell data from the BMS. Not ideal when you're trying to manage charge cycles properly.

A few questions:

  • Has anyone confirmed which protocol Humsienk actually uses? Their documentation is vague at best
  • Is there a specific cable pinout I should be trying? I've seen mentions of the standard Pylontech RS485 pinout working with some no-name Chinese packs
  • Would a BMS replacement (something like a Daly or JK) be worth considering at this point?

I'm running the EG4 alongside a Victron SmartShunt for monitoring, so I can at least see what's happening on that side, but proper inverter-BMS integration would make the whole setup much cleaner.

The battery itself holds voltage well and I've had no thermal issues, so I don't think it's a hardware problem as such — more a comms configuration headache. Would be good to hear from anyone who's cracked this with similar budget Chinese wallmount batteries, even if it's not the exact same brand.

@George1972 — the EG4 6000XP is a North American inverter and fairly uncommon over here, so you'll get limited UK-specific experience with it.

That said, Humsienk use a fairly generic RS485 CANBUS protocol — often Pylontech-compatible. Worth trying the following:

  1. Set your battery comms to Pylontech mode in the EG4 settings
  2. Check your RJ45 pinout — Humsienk's documentation is notoriously inconsistent between firmware revisions
  3. Confirm baud rate is 9600 (some units default to 115200)

I had similar grief getting a no-name 48V pack talking to my Victron Multiplus on the narrowboat — turned out the RJ45 cable was wired straight-through when it needed to be crossover. Embarrassingly simple fix after three days of head-scratching.

If Pylontech mode doesn't work, try Solax or Growatt protocol — they're often the next candidates for generic Chinese BMS units.

Joking aside, pairing a mystery-brand battery with a North American inverter on a UK forum is a bold move. You've essentially built yourself a United Nations of off-grid gear and expected everyone to speak the same language.

Right, actual experience here — I've got a no-name 48V wallmount that was equally mysterious brand-wise, paired with a Victron system. The comms rabbit hole is deep.

@BrianBrown same thought, genuinely googled it before realising it's probably an aliexpress rebadge with a creative naming department.

@George1972 not got that exact inverter but had similar comms grief with my static van setup — dodgy Chinese batteries often ship with RS485 but the protocol is some mangled variant of Pylontech that claims compatibility and isn't.

Few things worth trying:

  • Check which UART settings the BMS actually uses (baud rate especially — 9600 vs 115200 catches people out)
  • Some of these batteries have a DIP switch inside that toggles protocol mode
  • If all else fails, set it to "user defined" on the inverter and just run it dumb with voltage-based charging

Victron kit I've got plays nicer generally. Might be worth checking if there's a shared protocol doc floating around on the EG4 forums — they're more active for that inverter anyway.
