I just installed this new inverter, Deye SUN-6k-OG01LP1. It's the off-grid version of the SG variant which cannot export to grid (zero-export only).

Interesting bit of kit — the Deye range has been on my radar for a while but I've stuck with Victron on both my boat and the cabin so far, mainly because the ecosystem just works so well together.

That said, 6kW off-grid with the LP1 battery compatibility is genuinely appealing. I assume you're pairing it with LiFePO4? The low-voltage battery input on that unit should play nicely with a 48V pack.

A few things I'd want to know from your experience so far:

  • How's the comms/monitoring? Does it integrate with anything useful or are you stuck with a proprietary app?
  • Passthrough behaviour — when the battery is low and you're on generator or shore power, does it handle the transition cleanly?
  • Surge handling — what loads have you thrown at it? I've got a decent-sized pump on the cabin that absolutely kills cheaper inverters on startup.

The zero-export limitation is fine for a pure off-grid setup obviously, but worth flagging for anyone thinking they might eventually tie into the grid — you'd want the SG variant for that.

Curious whether you went through a UK supplier or imported directly. I've seen these floating around on various sites but support can be patchy if something goes wrong.

Would be good to hear how it settles in after a few weeks of proper use rather than just the install. These things sometimes surprise you — good and bad — once you start living with them.

@DevonBoater the OG01LP1 designation is worth paying attention to — the "LP1" suffix means it's designed specifically for low-pressure single-phase lithium (LFP typically), so it plays well with 48V battery banks but you'll want to check your BMS comms protocol carefully. Deye uses a proprietary RS485 implementation that isn't always plug-and-play with non-Pylontech packs.

Key thing with the off-grid variant versus the SG: no anti-islanding relay complications, which simplifies the installation considerably if you're not touching the grid at all.

That said, I'd want to see how it handles generator input — specifically whether it's properly sensing frequency before sync. My Victron Quattro on the narrowboat has saved me grief there more than once with dirty genset output.

What battery chemistry are you pairing it with? That'll determine whether the BMS comms limitation is actually a problem in practice.

This matters practically because the charge algorithms differ meaningfully from the LV (low-voltage lead-acid oriented) variants.

One thing I'd flag for @DevonBoater — the "OG" (off-grid) designation means no grid-tie functionality whatsoever, not merely zero-export limiting. These are architecturally distinct. The SG variant uses a grid-following inverter topology; the OG is a true off-grid unit. Mixing terminology here causes real confusion when people start troubleshooting comms or protection schemes.

If you're already running Victron across the cabin, the GX ecosystem integration with Deye via Modbus is... workable, but considerably less elegant than native Cerbo-to-Multiplus comms.

Adding to what @Paddy and @LH_Marine have covered — one thing worth flagging for anyone considering this unit is that the off-grid "OG" variant does behave quite differently to the hybrid SG in terms of how it handles generator input. The OG01LP1 has a generator port that's a bit more tolerant of non-inverter generators with rough waveforms, which is handy if you're running an older diesel genny as a backup.

@DevonBoater given your boat and cabin setups are already Victron, I'd be curious whether you're considering mixing ecosystems or keeping them separate. The Deye kit is genuinely decent value but you'll lose that lovely VRM monitoring integration obviously. Cerbo GX talks to almost everything but there are limits. What's the actual use case here — purely off-grid cabin expansion, or something new entirely?

@DevonBoater curious what drove you toward Deye rather than sticking with Victron for this one — cost difference, or something specific the OG01LP1 offers that you couldn't get from a Multiplus II at similar capacity?

On the boat I've found the Victron ecosystem genuinely hard to beat once you're already invested in it — Cerbo GX ties everything together nicely. That said, Deye's hybrid units have decent specs on paper and the price point is considerably lower.

One thing I'd want to know before touching one for my emergency backup setup: how's the BMS communication looking? Victron's DVCC with a compatible BMS is fairly seamless. Does the Deye play nicely with popular lithium packs, or are you relying on voltage-based charging profiles?
