Imbalance on one Li battery in bank of 5. Inaccurate Voltage meter?

Had something similar on the boat last summer — one of my Fogstar Drift 200Ah units was consistently reading about 0.08V lower than the rest of the bank, didn't matter where I shuffled it in the chain.

Turned out the Victron BMV-712 was showing accurate figures, the battery itself just had a slightly lazier BMS that wasn't balancing as aggressively as the others — basically the cell groups inside were drifting apart over time and dragging the overall pack voltage down.

Few things worth checking before you assume the meter's lying:

  • Cell-level data — if your LYNX Smart BMS can show individual cell voltages, that's your smoking gun right there
  • Bus bar connections — a dodgy or undertorqued connection can cause a voltage drop that looks like a battery issue
  • Charge history — has "Epsilon" ever been fully top-balanced with the others, or did it join the bank late?

The 0.1V gap sounds small but at 24V system level it can mean one pack is doing more work than the others, which compounds over time — not ideal when you're relying on it.

Worth running a full absorption charge and seeing if the gap closes at the top end. If it stubbornly refuses to budge, the battery's BMS might just be conservative, or a cell group is genuinely weaker.

Anyone else seen this with parallel 24V banks — does yours self-correct after a proper full charge cycle or does the rogue unit just permanently sulk? 🔋
