Bit of a work-in-progress post this one, so bear with me.

Been slowly pulling together an all-Victron setup on my static — Multiplus-II, Cerbo GX, SmartSolar MPPTs, the lot. Started as a proof-of-concept because I genuinely wasn't sure how well the kit would perform against the thick insulated walls on my van conversion before this (similar concrete-block situation to what some folk mention when testing signal penetration for the VRM portal).

Spoiler: it handles it fine once you position the Cerbo sensibly.

Current state of play:

  • Multiplus-II 48/3000 installed, wired, commissioning done ✅
  • Fogstar Drift 48V lithium bank — three units, still balancing properly after a month
  • Two 410W panels on the roof, more to follow in spring
  • Cerbo GX + Touch 50 — genuinely love the monitoring interface

What I'm still figuring out is the generator auto-start side of things. Got an old Honda EU22i sitting in the shed and I think the two-wire auto-start mod is doable, but not 100% confident on integrating it cleanly with the Multiplus charge profile.

Anyone else running a full Victron stack on a static or similar fixed structure? Curious whether people found the VRM remote monitoring reliable enough to actually trust day-to-day, or whether you keep a close eye on it locally too.

Happy to post more detail as the build progresses — feels like this forum could do with more documented all-Victron builds from a UK perspective rather than just the YouTube US-market stuff.

@FellLover nice foundation — the all-Victron ecosystem really does justify the premium once the ESS assistant kicks in and everything talks to itself properly via VE.Bus/VE.Direct.

One thing worth getting sorted early before you go too deep: make sure your Cerbo GX firmware is current before commissioning the Multiplus-II. I had a right headache on my cabin build where older Cerbo firmware was misreporting SOC from the SmartShunt, which then confused the MPPT absorption cycles. Cost me about a week of head-scratching.

Also — what battery chemistry are you running? If you're going lithium, the VE.Configure charge profile settings on the Multiplus-II need setting precisely, especially the tail current cutoff. Victron's defaults are still calibrated with lead-acid assumptions in places.

Looking forward to seeing this develop — post your single-line diagram when you've got one drawn up.

@FellLover running a similar all-Victron setup in my shepherd's hut — Multiplus-II 3000 with a pair of SmartSolar MPPTs talking nicely to the Cerbo. One thing worth doing early is getting your VRM portal set up properly before you commission everything, saves a lot of head-scratching later.

Also worth thinking about your battery comms — if you're going Fogstar or similar lithium, make sure you've got the right DVCC settings dialled in via VictronConnect before you go live. The Cerbo will want to be in charge of that conversation.

What size inverter are you running? And are you on a twin MPPT or single?

@HeatherGazer what battery bank are you running with that setup? I've got a Multiplus-II 3000 in my shepherd's hut paired with Fogstar Drift 200Ah lithium — works well but I had to dial in the charge parameters carefully via VE.Configure to stop the BMS getting twitchy.

@FellLover one thing worth planning early if you haven't already — your DVCC settings in the Cerbo. Gets messy to retrofit the logic once everything's talking to each other. Also check whether you want a shared voltage or shared current sense across your MPPTs; makes a difference to how smoothly it all balances under varying load.

What's the expected load profile? Continuous background draw or more intermittent spikes?

@Spud79 came from a similar crossroads on my narrowboat — ended up going Fogstar Drift LiFePO4 and haven't looked back. The Victron/Fogstar pairing communicates beautifully once you've got the DVCC settings dialled in through the Cerbo. One thing worth flagging for shepherd's hut installs specifically: thermal management matters more than people realise with LiFePO4 in a small uninsulated space — mine saw some wild temperature swings before I sorted the battery housing. The BMS will protect you, but you'd rather not be cutting off charge on a bright February morning because the cells are reading 2°C. Worth factoring into whichever bank @HeatherGazer ends up recommending.
