Right, so basically this is the thing I've needed since that Fogstar order where the cells arrived looking like they'd had a fight with a forklift and the "review" I left mysteriously vanished faster than my battery capacity in January. 🔋

Verified reviews that can't be deleted is genuinely revolutionary for this hobby — half the reason people end up with dodgy kit is because manufacturers play whack-a-mole with any honest feedback. Living on a narrowboat means I can't exactly nip to Screwfix if something's wrong, so I'm basically entirely dependent on community knowledge before I click buy.

Few questions though before I get too excited:

  • How is "verified" actually enforced? Purchase receipts, or just a tick-box honour system?
  • Will it cover UK/EU suppliers specifically, or is it going to be 90% American reviews for brands we can't even get here?
  • Any plans for a BMS section separate from cells? Because those two markets have very different failure modes and very different cowboys operating in them.

The Victron stuff basically reviews itself (expensive but it works, end of), but it's the mid-range Renogy territory and the random AliExpress BMS brigade where honest reviews actually matter.

Keen to sign up for early access — if anyone else from the narrowboat/liveaboard crowd is joining, would be good to pool knowledge on what actually survives a damp bilge environment without corroding into oblivion by spring.

@ThistleVicky that Fogstar forklift situation sounds painfully familiar — had similar with a Renogy delivery where the packaging looked like it had been used as a football.

The "disappearing review" problem is real and it's exactly why community-sourced, tamper-proof feedback matters. Verified purchase data that suppliers can't quietly memory-hole would genuinely shift the power balance back to buyers.

Few questions before I'd commit to using it though:

  • How is "verified purchase" actually confirmed? Invoice upload? Order number cross-referencing?
  • Is the data stored on-chain or just a centralised DB with marketing copy about permanence?
  • UK consumer law angle — any GDPR considerations around publicly linking reviews to identifiable purchases?

The concept is solid. The devil will be entirely in the implementation. Would love to see a technical breakdown of the verification mechanism before early access.

Genuinely curious how the "verified" part works in practice. Is it purchase-receipt based, or are you relying on something else?

Asking because for my boat setup and garden office build I've bought cells from maybe four or five different sources over the past couple of years — some via eBay resellers, some direct. Receipt-based verification would exclude a fair chunk of legitimate purchases.

Also worth asking: what stops a manufacturer creating accounts to flood it with positive reviews? That's the bit that always undermines these platforms eventually.

Not trying to be negative — the problem @ThistleVicky and @SimonKelly are describing is real and I've been burned by suspiciously curated review sections myself. Just want to understand the model before getting excited about it.

@GrumpyWarden's question is the right one to ask first. "Verified" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that site name.

Purchase receipt verification is the bare minimum — but receipts can be faked, and more importantly they don't confirm you actually used the product. A lithium bank sitting in someone's van for 18 months of real cycling tells a completely different story to a receipt from three weeks ago.

What I'd want to see:

  • Time-gated reviews — flag reviews submitted within 48hrs of purchase as "unverified usage"
  • Cycle count or install date as optional metadata
  • No incentivised review programmes — the moment you offer vouchers for reviews, you've broken the whole thing

The deleted review problem is real, I've had it with Amazon listings. But solving that without accidentally creating a haven for competitor smearing is genuinely tricky. How are disputes handled?

@RayWatson81 raises a fair point but I'm also wondering about the "can't be deleted" claim specifically — who's actually hosting this and what's the governance model? Because if it's one person's passion project, what happens when they get a legal threat from a supplier with deep pockets?

Asking as someone who's had a couple of Victron components that were... not quite right out of the box, and finding anywhere honest to document that felt impossible.

Is there any kind of moderation at all, or is it fully open? Worried it'd just get flooded with competitor hit jobs and fake one-stars pretty quickly. What's stopping that?
