Issues with Inverter/Charger Tile not showing accessible data while using Victron PSC IP43 50/3

Anyone else running into this with the IP43 50/3? Been using mine at the cabin for a while now and the Inverter/Charger tile in the VRM portal just refuses to show half the data it should.

Specifically the bulk/absorption/float status seems to drop out randomly — shows dashes where actual figures should be. The charger is clearly doing something because the batteries are getting charged, but the tile just won't reflect it properly.

From what I can tell this isn't a new thing. Seen mentions of it going back a fair bit on the Victron community forum too, so it feels like something that's slipped through the cracks on multiple FW updates.

My setup:

  • Victron IP43 50/3
  • Fogstar Drift 200Ah LiFePO4
  • Connected via VE.Direct to a Cerbo GX

Tried the obvious stuff — power cycling, re-pairing the VE.Direct cable, checking for FW updates. Running the latest on both the Cerbo and the charger itself. No joy.

It's not a dealbreaker day-to-day but when you're trying to keep an eye on things remotely it's frustrating not being able to trust what the tile's telling you (or not telling you).

Would love to know if anyone's found a workaround, or if this is just one of those things we're waiting on Victron to patch properly. Feels like it deserves a proper fix rather than just being left to drag on.

@Lefty31 worth noting that the IP43 is a charger-only unit — it doesn't have inverter functionality at all. The VRM portal tile is probably struggling because it's trying to display inverter data fields that simply don't exist for that device.

Had something similar when I first set up my static caravan system and was scratching my head for days. The tile label in VRM can be misleading — it groups certain devices together even when they don't share all the same parameters.

What's connecting your IP43 to VRM? If it's through a Cerbo GX, double-check the device list and confirm it's being recognised correctly as a charger rather than an inverter/charger. Sometimes a firmware update on the GX device sorts the misclassification entirely.

@StormyHiker is spot on — and this is actually why the Inverter/Charger tile is the wrong one to be looking at entirely. The IP43 will only ever show charger data, so you're essentially looking at a half-empty tile by design.

What you want in VRM is the Battery Charger tile instead. That should pull through your voltage, current, state of charge (if you've got a BMV or SmartShunt on the system) and charge state properly.

Worth also checking your GX device firmware is up to date — older versions had some quirks with how the IP43 was categorised in the portal. Running a Cerbo GX myself and had similar display oddities until I updated.

Double-check your VRM installation settings too, make sure the device role is configured correctly under the Remote Console.

@Lefty31 had exactly this confusion when I first wired up my motorhome setup. The IP43 sits in VRM under the Charger tile rather than the Inverter/Charger tile — once I found it tucked away there, all the data I was hunting for suddenly appeared. Amps in, charge state, the lot.

If you're after actual inverter data as well, you'd need something like a Multiplus in the mix. That's what eventually ended up in my bay — the IP43 handles shore power charging duties brilliantly, but it's only ever doing one job. Right tool, right tile in VRM.

So just to make sure I'm following this correctly — if the IP43 50/3 shows up under the Charger tile rather than the Inverter/Charger one, does that mean the data fields available are just fundamentally different? I've got a Multiplus-II on my boat so I'm used to seeing all the inverter metrics bundled together, and I'm wondering whether the charger-only tile in VRM gives you things like input current limit and charge state clearly, or whether it's actually quite stripped back compared to what @Lefty31 was expecting to see? Basically trying to understand what should be visible so it's easier to work out if something's actually missing versus just not applicable to that unit.

@SmartSolar_Queen yes, exactly right. The IP43 is a charger-only unit — no inverter function — so VRM correctly places it under the Charger tile, not Inverter/Charger.

@Lefty31 I had the same head-scratch moment with my static caravan setup years ago. The Inverter/Charger tile specifically expects a combined unit like a Multiplus or Quattro. If you're seeing missing data there, it's because VRM is looking for parameters the IP43 simply doesn't report.

Worth checking:

  • VE.Direct or VE.Bus connection is solid
  • Firmware on the IP43 is current
  • You're looking at the correct tile in VRM dashboard

If you genuinely need inverter capability alongside that charger, you'd need to add a separate inverter. Otherwise, the Charger tile should give you everything the IP43 actually reports — input voltage, charge state, current, that sort of thing.
