The battery side is where I'd pump the brakes a bit. Seen a few of these "budget BMS" units claiming 100Ah and delivering something closer to 73Ah on a good day — anyone else actually capacity-tested theirs with a proper load tester rather than just trusting the sticker?
My current gripe is the communication protocol — or lack of one. Fogstar and Victron play nicely together via VE.Can, but getting JSD gear to talk to anything feels like trying to explain off-grid living to a mortgage adviser. No RS485, no CAN bus, nothing. Just vibes and a green LED.
That said, for a secondary bank or a budget shed/cabin install where you're not staking your whole system on it, I can see the appeal. The inverter's pure sine output measured clean enough on my oscilloscope, so no complaints there.
Anyone running these with a proper battery monitor like the Victron BMV-712? Curious whether the shunt accuracy holds up or if I need to recalibrate every other Tuesday.
