Le widget Battery SOC (source Battery Monitor) n'affiche plus de données dans VRM

Bit of an odd one I've been puzzling over for the last fortnight or so — hoping someone here has seen this before.

My Victron VRM dashboard (Advanced tab) has stopped populating the Battery SOC widget that's sourced from the Battery Monitor. It just shows "no data to display" where the SOC graph used to live. The rest of the widgets are pulling through fine — voltage, current, everything else looks normal. The GX device (I'm running a Cerbo GX on my garden office system) is definitely online and syncing, because I can see live data on other panels.

What's strange is I can't pin down exactly when it broke. I noticed it maybe 10 days ago but it could have been quietly dead for longer. No firmware updates I'm aware of, no changes to the system itself — Fogstar Drift 100Ah LiFePO4 with a SmartShunt doing the monitoring duties.

A few things I've already checked:

  • SmartShunt is still visible as an active device in the VRM device list
  • The widget source is still set to Battery Monitor (not accidentally switched to a different device)
  • Tried removing and re-adding the widget — no change

My suspicion is it might be a VRM cloud-side data association issue rather than anything local, but I genuinely don't know. Has anyone else had the SOC widget decouple from the Battery Monitor source like this, particularly on a SmartShunt-based setup? Wondering if a Cerbo GX reboot or a full VRM site reset is the nuclear option here, or whether there's something more surgical worth trying first.

Hey @BaySeeker, classic head-scratcher this one! A couple of things worth checking:

First, have a look at which data source is selected for that SOC widget — VRM sometimes quietly switches from your Battery Monitor to the Multi/Quattro's internal calculation after a firmware update, and if that source has no valid data it'll just show blank.

Second, pop into your GX device settings (Remote Console → System Setup) and confirm your BMV or SmartShunt is still correctly designated as the "Battery Monitor" — I've seen this reset itself after a Cerbo firmware update.

Also worth checking the widget settings directly in VRM Advanced — click the pencil icon and see what source it's pulling from. You might just need to reselect it.

What GX device are you running, and has there been a recent firmware update around the time this started? That'd help narrow it down.

@BaySeeker worth checking whether your BMV or SmartShunt has lost its designation as the "Battery Monitor" in VenusOS. SSH into your CCGX/Cerbo and run dbus-spy — look under com.victronenergy.battery and confirm the correct device is listed as the active monitor instance.

Also seen this on my narrowboat Cerbo after a firmware update where the VRM portal instance ID got duplicated — dashboard widget was pointing at a ghost device. Fix was deleting the widget and re-adding it, selecting the battery monitor source explicitly from the dropdown rather than letting it auto-populate.

If you're running a third-party BMS (Daly, JK, etc.) via a RS485 adapter, the DVCC handshake occasionally drops the SOC feed silently — worth checking the DVCC settings in Remote Console are still enabled and the BMS is actually being seen as a trusted source.

@BaySeeker had almost the exact same gremlin on my setup last spring — SmartShunt was logging beautifully locally but VRM was showing a blank SOC widget like it'd simply forgotten what to look at.

The culprit in my case was a VRM dashboard widget configuration that had silently decoupled from the instance ID after a firmware update on the Cerbo GX. The widget was still pointing to the old instance, which no longer matched.

Quick thing to try: delete the SOC widget entirely from your Advanced tab, then re-add it fresh — when it prompts you to select the data source, confirm it's pulling from com.victronenergy.battery rather than a system-calculated value.

Also worth cross-referencing your VRM → Device List to confirm the SmartShunt appears there with live data. If it does, it's almost certainly a widget configuration issue rather than anything deeper.

Good shout from @ExSquaddie49 and @TorJake — one thing nobody's mentioned yet: check whether your GX device has recently updated. Venus OS updates occasionally reset the "Has DC system" toggle under System Setup, which can knock the SmartShunt off its pedestal as primary battery monitor.

Worth going through:

  • Settings → System Setup → Battery Monitor — confirm it's pointing at your SmartShunt/BMV, not "Automatic"
  • While you're there, check "Has DC system" is set correctly for your setup

Had a similar wobble on my shepherd's hut system after a Venus OS bump last year — VRM showed dashes for days until I spotted the monitor source had quietly reverted. Two-minute fix once you know where to look.

If your GX firmware updated itself overnight and quietly reset the Battery Monitor source selection back to default, I'd be eating my anchor — check Settings → System Setup → Battery Monitor on the Cerbo/CCGX before you do anything else, took me an embarrassing amount of time to spot that one on my boat.
