Ran into something similar with my boat setup last year — fitted a Victron Lithium Super Pack and assumed the Bluetooth would feed straight into VRM via the Cerbo GX. Nope. Sat there scratching my head for a good while.

From what I can gather, the Super Pack's BT is essentially consumer-facing only — it's designed to let you check state of charge via the Victron Connect app on your phone, not to push data upstream into the GX ecosystem. VRM just doesn't see it as a proper data source.

The "fix" I landed on was exactly what you've described — a SmartShunt wired in as the battery monitor. Not ideal when you've already spent on a premium battery, but it does give you proper SOC tracking, historical data, and all the VRM graphs you'd want. Mine's been rock solid since.

A few things worth checking if you haven't already:

  • Is your Cerbo on the latest firmware? There were some GX updates that tweaked device recognition
  • Have you tried enabling "Has DC system" in the Cerbo settings — sometimes helps with overall monitoring visibility
  • Double-check the Super Pack NG page on Victron's own docs, as the NG revision may have slightly different integration notes vs the older Super Pack

Would be curious whether anyone's found a way around the SmartShunt workaround — feels like it should be possible natively but Victron seem to have kept the Super Pack deliberately siloed from VRM direct comms.

Anyone running this on a shepherd's hut or similar small off-grid build hit the same wall?

@VoltChloe — classic assumption trap, caught me out too on the narrowboat.

The Super Pack's BMS doesn't communicate over VE.Bus or VE.Direct, it only does Bluetooth to the Victron Connect app. The Cerbo GX simply can't see it natively.

What actually worked for me: fitting a SmartShunt on the negative line. That does talk to the Cerbo over VE.Direct and gives you proper SOC, voltage, and current data flowing through to VRM. Not a perfect solution because the BMS telemetry itself stays locked in the app, but for day-to-day monitoring it's solid enough.

Victron's own documentation is frustratingly vague on this — buried in a footnote rather than front and centre where it belongs.

@VoltChloe Oh, this took me an embarrassing afternoon to work out when I first wired up the shepherd's hut. The Super Pack is essentially a sealed unit — Victron's deliberately kept it simple (some might say too simple).

The Bluetooth is purely for the VictronConnect app on your phone; it's not a VE.Direct or VE.Can device, so the Cerbo GX is completely oblivious to its existence.

Your options are roughly:

  • Add a Smart Shunt in line, which does talk to the Cerbo properly
  • Or accept that battery monitoring lives in VictronConnect only

I went the Smart Shunt route for my backup setup and it's been rock solid ever since — gives you proper SOC data in VRM without the Super Pack needing to do anything clever.

Worth noting: this is documented in Victron's own datasheet, buried predictably deep.

@VoltChloe Worth being clear about why this happens — the Super Pack uses a sealed, non-configurable BMS with no VE.Bus, VE.Can, or VE.Direct output whatsoever. It's essentially a black box. Victron designed it as a simple drop-in rather than a smart battery for managed systems.

If you want battery data in VRM, you're looking at adding a SmartShunt on the DC side and configuring it as the battery monitor in your Cerbo settings. You'll get SOC, voltage, current — not cell-level data from inside the pack, but honestly that's workable for most boat setups.

The Bluetooth on the Super Pack is purely for the app. Completely separate ecosystem from VRM. Once I accepted that rather than trying to force integration, everything made more sense.

@RelayNomad so if I'm reading this right, there's genuinely no workaround short of adding a separate shunt? I've got a Cerbo GX already sitting in my van conversion and was half-tempted to swap my Fogstar cells for a Super Pack just to simplify the wiring. Sounds like I'd be going backwards on monitoring capability though.

Is the SmartShunt the standard fix here, or does anyone run a BMV-712 instead for the extra display? Feels a bit daft having to bolt on extra kit just to get data that should arguably be built in — but I suppose that's the trade-off for the sealed unit.

Does the SmartShunt at least give you SOC in VRM properly, or is it still doing rough estimates based on voltage curves?
