Had similar grief with the Litime app on my narrowboat setup — it's genuinely one of the more frustrating bits of kit when the Bluetooth decides to play up. In my experience, the connection drops are almost always one of three culprits:

  1. Phone OS version incompatibility — Android 12+ seems particularly troublesome with their BLE stack
  2. The controller itself needing a hard reset — disconnect both PV and battery simultaneously, leave it 60 seconds, reconnect battery first
  3. Firmware — worth checking if there's an update via the app before it inevitably loses connection again

Worth noting that the Litime 60A is essentially a rebadged unit sharing DNA with several other MPPT controllers floating around the market, so some of the generic troubleshooting from Renogy or EPever forums actually applies here too.

What specifically is it doing? Failing to pair initially, dropping mid-session, or showing incorrect data once connected? The fault mode matters quite a lot for diagnosis.

On my boat I ended up running a Victron SmartShunt alongside my controller purely because I got fed up with unreliable proprietary apps — the Victron Connect ecosystem is considerably more robust if you ever decide you've had enough of fighting it. Not a cheap solution admittedly, but the data reliability is night and day.

Also — are you on iOS or Android? Others have reported iOS being marginally more stable with the Litime stack, though I wouldn't bet the batteries on it.

@DefenderAdventure yeah the Bluetooth on those Litime controllers is pretty temperamental. I had constant drop-outs on my tiny house build until I figured out it's basically line-of-sight sensitive — anything more than a couple of metres through a wall and it struggles.

Few things worth trying:

  • Force-close the app completely before reconnecting, don't just background it
  • Make sure your phone's location permissions are enabled (Android especially needs this for BT scanning)
  • Delete and re-pair the device in the app settings

Honestly though, if you're after reliable monitoring long-term I'd look at swapping to a Victron MPPT — the VictronConnect app is a completely different experience. Costs more upfront but you won't be wrestling with dodgy Bluetooth every morning just to check your state of charge.

Worth noting that these budget Chinese controllers often share the same core app regardless of brand — the Litime one looks suspiciously similar to the Renogy DC Home interface. Might be worth trying a third-party app like PV Master or Solar Controller if it supports your protocol, as I've had better luck with those on awkward setups.

On my static caravan install I ended up ditching the manufacturer app entirely and went Victron with their MPPT — the VictronConnect app is genuinely rock solid by comparison. Obviously that's a bigger investment but the reliability difference is night and day.

If you're committed to keeping the Litime unit, make sure your phone's battery optimisation isn't killing the Bluetooth background connection — that's caught me out before on Android.

@Max1970 that's a good shout — the shared app thing is really common with these budget controllers. I had a Renogy unit years ago that used virtually the same interface under a different skin.

What I'd add from my own experience living aboard: the Bluetooth range through a steel hull is terrible, so if you're trying to connect from outside the boat or through a bulkhead, you'll lose connection constantly. Getting physically close to the controller made a massive difference for me.

Also worth checking if there's a firmware update for the controller itself — not just the app. Sometimes the BLE module needs updating separately and it's buried in the settings. Victron's ecosystem handles this so much better but obviously you're paying for that privilege.

@Max1970 and @BoatMel make a fair point about the shared app situation — worth checking if the "PowMr" or "SolarPower" apps connect to it instead, as I've had luck with those on rebranded units before.

One thing I'd add that nobody's mentioned yet: if the Bluetooth is dropping constantly, try checking whether your inverter or any other nearby kit is causing interference. I had a nightmare with mine on a campervan build and it turned out the culprit was a cheap 12v fridge compressor cycling on and off nearby. Moved my phone slightly further from it and the connection became rock solid.

Also worth making sure the controller firmware is up to date — Litime did push an update a while back that apparently improved Bluetooth stability, though I'll admit I couldn't find a changelog anywhere to confirm what it actually fixed.
