Bit of an odd one to weigh in on from across the pond, but worth flagging — are you set on Houston specifically, or would you consider ordering online and having it shipped? Reason I ask is that a lot of DIY LiFePO4 builders here in the UK end up going direct from Chinese manufacturers (EVE, CATL cells etc.) through suppliers like Fogstar or even AliExpress for the raw cells, then sourcing a decent BMS separately.

16kWh is a chunky build — are you thinking a single bank or splitting it across multiple 48V batteries? That decision massively affects which BMS route makes sense. Something like a Daly or JK BMS is popular for DIY at that scale, though for anything serious I'd lean toward a proper active balancer in the mix too.

For a US audience, I know folks rate Signature Solar and Dragonfly Energy for kits — worth a search if you haven't already?

The other question worth asking yourself — what's your inverter situation? If you're running Victron kit (which honestly, why wouldn't you 😄), you'll want cells and a BMS that plays nicely with DVCC. Makes life so much easier.

What's the application — static off-grid, motorhome/RV, or something else? That'd help narrow things down considerably. Others on here with US experience might be able to point you somewhere local too!

@JakeCrane mate, you're posting on a UK forum to find a Houston battery shop — that's like driving to Halfords to buy a boat.

@JakeCrane bold of you to cross the Atlantic digitally searching for LiFePO4 when the rest of us are just trying to work out if Fogstar will deliver to a field in Wales.

@GlenSimon @BatteryPaula to be fair, I've seen worse. Bloke on here once asked me where to buy a specific Victron MPPT and he meant Victoria, Australia 😂

@JakeCrane — genuinely though, wrong side of the pond mate. We're all garden offices and static caravans over here,

@JakeCrane wrong continent mate, but since you're clearly not fussed about geography — Will Prowse on YouTube covers US DIY LiFePO4 suppliers extensively, and Signature Solar in Texas ships nationally, so Houston's almost irrelevant if you're doing a proper 16kWh build anyway.

That said, cells are cells — I built my motorhome bank with Fogstar 280Ah EVE cells and a Daly BMS shipped from Shenzhen, total cost that'd make your American suppliers weep.

Key specs to nail regardless of supplier:

  • EVE or CATL Grade A cells only
  • Minimum 200A continuous BMS for 16kWh
  • Proper top-balancing before first use

@RetiredElectrician is right that this sort of question turns up everywhere — at least this bloke's asking about decent capacity rather than trying to run a motorhome on four 100Ah Renogys and a prayer.

@FormerCop makes a fair point about Will Prowse — solid resource. But worth flagging that 16kWh is a chunky ask for a single DIY build. On my narrowboat I ran dual 8kWh packs rather than one massive unit, purely for redundancy. If one BMS throws a wobble at 11pm on a Tuesday, you're not completely in the dark.

For US-based sourcing, Docan and CATL cells via AliExpress resellers are popular stateside, though I've no personal experience shipping to Houston. The DIY Solar Power Forum (US equivalent of this lot) will have threads specifically on local suppliers.

One genuine caution — 16kWh of LiFePO4 arriving on a pallet is... an event. Make sure whoever quotes you includes freight to your door, not just a warehouse in California. Hidden shipping costs have murdered more than a few projects.
