Has anyone managed to get reliable comms between one of these SunGoldPower hybrid inverters and an ECO-WORTHY battery bank? I've been pulling my hair out trying to get the BMS data to show properly on the inverter display.

I've got a similar-ish setup in my garden office — Victron kit talking to a Fogstar Drift battery — and even that took some fiddling with the correct DVCC settings and cable pinout. Proper rabbit hole.

From what I can gather, the SPH6548P should support RS485 comms, but the protocol it expects might not match what ECO-WORTHY's BMS is broadcasting. A few questions I'm hoping someone can help with:

  • Is there a specific baud rate that's worked for you? I've seen references to 9600 and 115200 floating about.
  • Does the SPH6548P need a particular battery brand pre-selected in its settings menu to accept the BMS data, or is there a generic/custom option?
  • Are you using the RS485 port or CAN bus? ECO-WORTHY seems a bit vague in their documentation about which protocol their BMS actually outputs.
  • Any custom cable wiring involved, or does a standard RJ45 patch cable do the job?

I'm considering something similar for a shepherds hut project and want to avoid locking myself into a battery brand that's awkward to integrate. ECO-WORTHY is tempting on price, but not if the comms side is a nightmare.

Would be good to hear from anyone who's actually got this working rather than just theoretically possible. Real-world pinouts and screenshots of working settings would be brilliant if anyone's got them.

@SaltyGrafter oh mate, the classic "inverter and battery are both speaking RS485 but apparently different dialects" situation 😄

Been there with a less exotic combo and it's not fun.

Few things worth checking:

  • Baud rate — try 9600 vs 115200, these two brands sometimes have wild

@SaltyGrafter I had a similar headache last year pairing a different SunGoldPower unit with a third-party lithium bank. Worth checking a few things first - what baud rate have you set on the inverter side? The SPH6548P defaults to 9600 but some ECO-WORTHY BMS firmware expects 19200. Also make sure you're on the correct protocol setting in the inverter menu; there's usually a "Lithium" or "User-Defined" option rather than leaving it on AGM/sealed lead.

@MoorLee is spot on about the dialect issue - the pinout on the RJ45/RS485 connector can also be flipped depending on which revision of the ECO-WORTHY battery you've got. Can you tell us which specific ECO-WORTHY model you're running? That'd help narrow it down considerably.

@SaltyGrafter before you go further down the rabbit hole, check what protocol the ECO-WORTHY is actually advertising — some of their 48V packs use a Pylontech-compatible protocol rather than their own proprietary one. In the SPH6548P settings, try selecting "Pylon" under the battery communication type rather than anything labelled ECO-WORTHY or generic lithium.

Also worth double-checking your RS485 cable — it needs to be A-to-A and B-to-B, not crossed. I've seen folk waste hours when it was simply a dodgy cable or the wrong pin-out on the RJ45.

What firmware version is your inverter running? There were some known comms bugs in earlier builds that SunGoldPower quietly patched. Might be worth grabbing the latest from their site before tweaking anything else. Let us know what you see in the battery parameters menu.

@SaltyGrafter ECO-WORTHY batteries and "reliable comms" — pick one, mate.

Seriously though, that BMS uses a Daly-derived protocol and half these Chinese inverters expect something closer to Pylontech's CAN bus format — you're essentially asking two blokes to have a conversation where one's speaking Geordie and the other's speaking Glaswegian.

Try setting the battery type to "Li" or "User" on the inverter rather than any named protocol, then manually configure your charge voltages (54.4V absorption, 53.6V float for a 48V LiFePO4). Let the inverter just charge the thing rather than trying to talk to it — works a treat on my static caravan setup and I've had zero BMS nonsense since.

Not glamorous, but neither is bricking your battery at 2am.

@SaltyGrafter what protocol is the ECO-WORTHY battery actually advertising? RS485 CAN or straight UART? Because that's where I'd start before fiddling with inverter settings.

On my boat setup I wasted two weekends assuming the cable pinout matched what the manual showed — it didn't. Borrowed a cheap USB-RS485 adapter and used a terminal to see what the battery was actually spitting out before touching the inverter side.

Also — which firmware is your SPH6548P on? SunGoldPower have been quietly pushing updates that change the BMS protocol options in the comms menu. Worth checking their site.

ECO-WORTHY's own documentation is frankly rubbish, so don't trust it blindly. Have you contacted their support directly and asked which Pylontech-compatible protocol setting to use? Some of their batteries respond to that.
