Been through almost exactly this situation a couple of years back with my static caravan conversion, so this thread caught my eye immediately.
I had all my Victron kit sitting in boxes — MultiPlus-II, Cerbo GX, SmartSolar MPPT — and genuinely thought I could piece it together from YouTube and the Victron documentation. I'm a retired nurse, not an electrician, and whilst I got further than expected, there came a point where the VE.Configure settings and the AC coupling logic just had me stumped. One wrong parameter and you can cause real damage.
What actually saved me was finding a Victron-authorised installer through the official Victron Professional installer map. Worth checking that first before going through Facebook groups, because you'll at least know they've had proper training rather than just watched a few videos.
A couple of things I'd suggest for anyone in a similar boat:
- Document everything before anyone touches it — photos of your cable runs, component positions, busbar layouts
- Be upfront that you want to understand the commissioning, not just have someone flick switches and leave
- Ask specifically about VRM portal setup — remote monitoring is half the value of Victron kit and a lot of installers rush past it
For a 7.5t Iveco build, the complexity is real. You're likely looking at a decent sized inverter, possibly lithium (Fogstar Drift perhaps?), and DC loads that all need careful earthing consideration in a vehicle context.
There are some genuinely brilliant independents around the UK who specialise in exactly this. Anyone here worked with good installers in a particular region? Would be useful to start building a bit of a recommendations thread.
