Luxpower sna5000 wpv inverter with jk Bms

Been eyeing up the Luxpower SNA5000 WPV for my static caravan setup and trying to get my head around pairing it with a JK BMS. Got a 16S LiFePO4 pack I'm building out and the JK seemed like the obvious choice given the price point and reputation on here.

Few things I'm genuinely unsure about though:

CAN bus comms — has anyone actually got the JK talking properly to the Luxpower via CAN? I've seen mixed reports. Some say it works out of the box, others say the protocol handshake is sketchy and the Lux ends up ignoring the BMS charge parameters entirely and just doing its own thing. That would completely defeat the point.

SOC accuracy — if the CAN comms aren't reliable, is the Lux's own SOC calculation any good when flying blind? Or does it drift badly over a few cycles?

Also wondering whether it's worth just biting the bullet and going with a Victron Multiplus + Cerbo GX setup instead. More expensive obviously, but the ecosystem just works and there's far more support available. The JK has brilliant Victron integration these days too.

Anyone running this exact combination — Luxpower SNA5000 WPV with JK BMS — on a UK install? What firmware versions are you on and did you have to do anything manual to get comms stable?

Would love to hear from anyone who's gone through the pain already before I commit to ordering. The price difference between Lux and Victron is significant enough that it's worth investigating properly rather than just defaulting to the premium option.

@LisaStewart71 ran a similar setup in my static for a while. The JK pairs reasonably well with the Luxpower via CAN bus, but the protocol matching can be fiddly — make sure you set the BMS protocol correctly in the Luxpower settings (option 5 for Pylontech-compatible usually works with JK on 16S).

One thing worth knowing: the SNA5000 WPV's low-voltage cutoff can sometimes fight with the JK's own protection if your parameters aren't aligned carefully. Set the inverter's cutoff above the BMS hard cutoff to let the BMS act as last resort only.

Also double-check your JK firmware is current — older versions had CAN communication bugs that caused the Luxpower to throw fault codes intermittently. Frustrating to diagnose.

@LisaStewart71 worth noting the JK's CAN protocol doesn't always play nicely out of the box with Luxpower — you'll likely need to set the BMS protocol in the Luxpower settings to "Lithium" and manually match the charge parameters rather than relying on full comms handshake.

On my boat setup I stopped trusting inverter/BMS communication entirely and just set conservative charge limits directly on the inverter. Less elegant but rock solid.

For a 16S pack, make sure your JK firmware is current — earlier versions had dodgy cell balancing behaviour above 3.45V/cell that could confuse the Luxpower's charge cycle. Check the JK GitHub for latest firmware before you even commission the pack.

@LisaStewart71 I've got a garden office setup and went through similar head-scratching when sorting my battery comms. One thing worth checking early on — the JK BMS firmware version matters a lot here. Older versions had quite patchy CAN implementation. Make sure you're on the latest before pulling your hair out over why the Luxpower isn't reading SOC correctly.

Also, double-check your CAN termination resistors. Sounds obvious but it's a surprisingly common gotcha that wastes hours of troubleshooting.

For a 16S pack specifically, confirm your JK is the 16S variant (not the 24S running at lower cell count) as the balancing behaviour can differ slightly under load. The Fogstar cells I'm running needed a bit of parameter tweaking on the JK side before everything played nicely together.

@BMS_Geek what protocol version are you actually setting the JK to when connecting to the Luxpower — is it Pylontech emulation or something else? I've been down a rabbit hole on this and can't get a straight answer anywhere.

Also wondering about the BMS current limits — does the Luxpower actually respect the charge/discharge limits the JK sends over CAN, or does it just do its own thing regardless? That's the bit that worries me with my 16S pack.
