Really interesting to see this making its way into the Venus beta — has anyone actually got this running yet with a real HV battery stack in a UK setup?
I've been watching the Pylontech HV protocol integration with some curiosity. My current narrowboat setup is all LiFePO4 at 24V with a Victron Multiplus-II and a Cerbo GX, so I'm nowhere near the HV territory yet — but I've been quietly thinking about whether a shepherd's hut project I'm planning would benefit from going higher voltage from the off.
A few things I'm wondering about:
- Which HV battery brands are actually confirmed compatible via this CANbus integration, beyond the obvious Pylontech units? Anyone tried anything from the likes of Dyness or CATL?
- Is the GX CANbus port on the Cerbo sufficient or do you need a specific interface?
- How stable is the Venus beta in practice? I'm always a bit wary of running beta firmware on anything mission-critical
The idea of proper BMS-to-inverter communication at the HV level is genuinely exciting — no more guessing whether your BMS is actually talking to the Multi properly. That's been one of my frustrations even at lower voltages with third-party batteries.
Would be good to hear from anyone who's already taken the plunge, particularly if you're running an off-grid residential or semi-permanent setup rather than just a test bench. UK grid-tie considerations presumably don't apply for most of us here, which might simplify things somewhat.
