Been doing a fair bit of research on the Multi RS Solar 48/6000/100 lately as I'm considering it as a potential upgrade path, and I've got a few questions I can't quite pin down from the Victron docs alone.

My current setup is a single MultiPlus-II 48/5000 with AC-in tied to a Honda EU22i generator for backup, feeding a 15kWh Fogstar-based LiFePO4 bank. Works reliably, but I'm losing a lot of potential with no MPPT integrated into the inverter itself — running separate SmartSolar controllers alongside.

The Multi RS Solar looks attractive precisely because it consolidates the high-power MPPT (100A, so up to ~5.8kW of panels directly), but I've got some specific concerns:

  • Generator compatibility — the AC-in on the Multi RS, is it as forgiving with generator waveforms as the standard MultiPlus-II? The EU22i is inverter-type so reasonably clean, but still curious whether the transfer switch behaviour differs.
  • Parallel/three-phase — can you actually parallel two Multi RS units in the same way as the MultiPlus-II range? Documentation feels vague on this.
  • DVCC interaction — anyone running this with a Cerbo GX and a third-party BMS? Curious whether CCL and DCL signals from the BMS are properly respected when the integrated MPPT is also pushing charge current.

If anyone has hands-on experience running one of these — particularly in a UK off-grid context where generator hours matter — I'd love to hear whether the consolidation is worth the trade-offs versus keeping separate MPPT units.

Got the Multi RS Solar running in my tiny house setup — cracking bit of kit.

Few things worth knowing:

  • Generator input is AC-in but the Multi RS Solar is not the same as the Quattro — it only has a single AC input, so no separate generator + grid ports
  • That said, it handles generator input fine, just make sure your genny has decent voltage stability or you'll get nuisance trips
  • The 100A MPPT built in is genuinely good, handles partial shading better than I expected
  • ESS mode works well if you're planning grid-tie later

One thing that caught me out — it needs a proper neutral from your generator, floating neutral gennies need a workaround.

What's your current setup @BarryWood? Might help narrow down whether this is actually the right unit for your situation or if a Quattro makes more sense.

Nothing like spending weeks researching a box only to realise the Victron manual answers precisely three of your seventeen questions — running one on the narrowboat and the ESS config alone took me longer to figure out than my entire agricultural career.

@BarryWood I went through exactly this rabbit hole before sorting my static caravan setup. One thing that caught me out — the Multi RS Solar's generator input has some quirks around minimum load thresholds before it'll accept the AC source properly. Ran a cheap Chinese genny alongside it initially and it threw fits until I swapped to a proper inverter-generator (Honda EU22i sorted it).

Also worth knowing: the 100A MPPT is shared across two tracker inputs, not independent trackers running simultaneously at full capacity each. Caught a few people out on sizing.

@ExFarmer is right about the manual — cross-referencing the CCGX integration notes separately saved me hours of confusion. Victron's own community forum fills the gaps the manual doesn't.

What battery chemistry are you planning? Makes a difference to how the absorption/float behaviour plays out in practice.

Worth adding — the Multi RS Solar handles AC coupling differently to the classic Multis, so if you're planning to bolt on extra panels later via a separate inverter on the AC side, check the frequency shifting limits carefully. Victron's ESS assistant behaves a bit differently on this unit too.

Also the 100A MPPT built in is genuinely decent but it's a single tracker, so if your panels are split across different orientations (mine face SE and SW) you'll want to think about whether that's a bottleneck.

Generator input is fussier about Hz stability than I expected — cheap gennies can cause it to trip. Had grief with a basic 3kW unit before switching to an inverter generator.

VictronConnect works well for monitoring but proper integration really wants a Cerbo GX alongside it.
