Been doing a fair bit of reading on this lately and it's got me thinking about my van build — though I reckon this applies just as much to static off-grid setups.
So the Multi RS Solar (and the newer Multi RS) can't be paralleled at the AC output because they can't sync with each other, fair enough. But what if you deliberately keep the AC outputs separate while sharing a common battery bank and a common AC input (mains or genny)?
Basically the question is: is that a valid and safe configuration? Two units, same Victron battery system (say a 48V LiFePO4 bank, Fogstar or similar), both pulling from the same AC input when available, but each feeding its own independent AC output circuit.
My thinking is this could be genuinely useful where you've got:
- One circuit for sensitive loads (NAS, networking, medical kit)
- Another for "rough" loads (power tools, kettle, etc.)
And you'd get double the inverter capacity without needing true parallel sync.
A few things I'm not clear on though:
- Does the battery management get messy with two units on the same bank — any contention issues?
- Would both units play nicely together in VictronConnect / Venus OS without one trying to override the other?
- On a shared AC input, does one unit effectively "steal" charge priority from the other?
Has anyone actually tried this or seen it running in the wild? I've seen vague references in the Victron Community forum but nothing conclusive for a UK-spec setup. Would be dead useful for an off-grid cabin or a large van build with segregated loads.
