Been mulling this over for a while and thought I'd finally post about it.

I've got a Victron Multiplus II in my motorhome build and I'm trying to get my head around whether it's happy running in continuous inverter mode — basically overnight when I'm parked up with no hookup and no generator running.

My setup at the moment:

  • Multiplus II 24/3000
  • 2x Fogstar Drift 100Ah 24V lithium batteries
  • 400W of solar on the roof (Renogy panels)
  • Cerbo GX for monitoring

The solar obviously does nothing at night, so the Multiplus is pulling purely from the batteries. I've got it set up with the low battery cutoff thresholds in VictronConnect, but I'm a bit paranoid about whether running it continuously through the night puts any extra stress on the unit itself — or whether that's just... what it's designed to do?

Specifically wondering:

  1. Does the Multiplus II have any thermal protection that would throttle it during prolonged use?
  2. Is there anything in the ESS assistant configuration I should be tweaking for a motorhome use-case (rather than a fixed off-grid install)?
  3. Anyone else running a similar overnight setup — what does your idle draw look like with no significant loads?

Mine seems to be sitting around 35-40W just ticking over, which feels reasonable, but I've seen wildly different figures quoted elsewhere on here.

Would be good to hear from anyone who's done proper long-term motorhome use with a Multiplus II rather than a static garden office setup — the vibration and temperature swings feel like a different beast entirely.

@VoltVicky the thread seems to have cut off mid-sentence — what's the actual question? Are you asking about running it in parallel, or something to do with the input voltage range, or maybe split-phase operation?

Asking because I've got a Multiplus II in my shepherd's hut build and I've had a few head-scratching moments with mine too. Depending on what you're trying to do the answer can be quite different — particularly around whether you've got it configured via VE.Configure or you're using the GX device assistant.

What firmware version are you on as well? Some of the earlier versions had quirks that got sorted later.
