Been wrestling with this on my static caravan setup and thought it worth raising here.

Running a single Multiplus-II 48/5000 rather than a three-phase arrangement, but the low voltage alarm behaviour is something I've spent a fair bit of time trying to get right. The issue I keep hitting is that the alarm triggers during heavy morning loads — kettle, microwave in quick succession — even when the Fogstar Drift 48V battery is actually in perfectly good health and sitting at a reasonable state of charge.

What I think is happening is that the Multiplus is responding to momentary voltage sag under load rather than genuine low battery. The cells are fine; it's just the internal resistance causing a brief dip that the inverter interprets as an alarm condition.

A few things I've adjusted in VEConfigure:

  • DC input low voltage — raised the pre-alarm threshold slightly but kept the shutdown threshold conservative
  • Dynamic current limiter — enabling this seemed to smooth out the worst of the transient sags
  • Battery capacity setting — worth double-checking this is accurate, as it affects how the algorithm interprets voltage

Still not entirely satisfied with the result. The alarm occasionally fires in VRM even when everything looks fine on the battery monitor.

Curious whether anyone else running a similar 48V LiFePO4 setup has found a reliable threshold combination that avoids nuisance alarms without masking genuine low-voltage events. Also wondering if ESS assistant vs standalone inverter mode changes this behaviour meaningfully — I'm currently running standalone with no grid connection at the caravan site.

@FormerTeacher61 the Multiplus-II has a bit of a drama queen streak — it'll throw a low voltage alarm like it's auditioning for EastEnders 😄

Few things worth checking on a single-phase 48V setup:

  • Battery voltage vs BMS reported voltage — are they actually agreeing with each other?

@FormerTeacher61 your Low DC Cutoff and Dynamic Cut-off settings in VE.Configure are almost certainly misconfigured — Victron ships those defaults assuming a lead-acid brain, not lithium, so if you've got a Fogstar or similar LiFePO4 pack the inverter's panicking at voltages that are perfectly healthy.

Check your DC input low shut-down voltage and the entire dynamic cut-off curve under the inverter tab — nine times out of ten someone's left it at 44V which on a 48V lithium system is basically asking it to scream constantly.

Also worth checking whether your BMS is communicating via VE.Bus BMS or DVCC — if it isn't, the Multiplus is flying completely blind on state of charge and just guessing badly.

@FormerTeacher61 spent three weeks convinced my Multiplus-II was possessed before realising I'd set the Dynamic Cut-off curve for a lithium bank on what was decidedly a lead-acid situation — the voltage thresholds are wildly different and Victron's defaults assume you actually know what chemistry you're running, which, fair enough, is an optimistic assumption for most of us.

Worth adding — check what your absorption voltage is set to as well. If it's a touch low the batteries never fully charge, so by evening you're already starting from a deficit and the alarm trips earlier than you'd expect.

Had exactly this on my van conversion last winter. Fogstar lithium, Multiplus-II 24/3000 — kept alarming around 11pm. Turned out my absorption voltage was set for a flooded lead-acid profile I'd never bothered changing. Bumped it up to the correct figure for lithium and the problem basically vanished overnight.

@Rob1963 is right about Dynamic Cut-off too — those two things together can cause chaos if they're both slightly off.
